Quality Chamber Job - Smith Recommendations

I've been living in the land of prefits for my Zermatt actions. I have access to a reamer and a barrel that I'd like to get chambered and threaded. Don't mind sending my action in if it makes it that much better.

Looking for recommendations on someone trustworthy that would do a good job dialing it in and cutting it. Wait time isn't super crucial but I've been quoted 8 weeks by a couple. Price isn't the determining factor but I've seen some that are quite high IMO. I don't have anyone local that's worth a crap so I've all but decided to ship it all out. In NW AR. if it happens to matter.

Just looking to see who you would trust to chamber an expensive barrel.

Eazor precision in falls creek pa has done 7-8 barrels for me, does 2 of my friends comp rifles and a lot of the other local comp guys. For just a chamber job he’s usually very fast too. We’ve all been happy with his work

TS Customs
Preece Precision
Altus
Blue Mountain Precision
SAC
GAP
Southern Precision Rifles (Bugholes)

Lots of others
Good list, id add Patriot Valley Arms as well

Short Action Customs is top tier and all I use anymore. Combination of elite machining and elite communication/customer service.

There are plenty of good shops out there.

If you're in NW Arkansas, check out Matt Stewart in Watson, OK. He's close enough to drive to and a hell of a guy. He's one of the better ones around, but I'm not sure how long his backlog is at the moment.

Fritz at Black Canyon Customs here in CO.

Everything from him is a laser.
His stock work is top notch too

Is Matt Stewart the smith who trained in Georgia with the late great Robert Gradous?
And Robert referred people to him when he was too busy.
Thats a heck of an endorsement.
Or am I getting ppl confused?

You are correct. Matt "apprenticed" a bit under Robert Gradous as well as Terry Cross (I can't think of a better term at the moment). He was with Surgeon Rifles back when it was an Oklahoma company.

Even George Gardner has recommended him a time or two when GAP had an extensive backlog.

If a man worked with Terry and Robert and they recommend him, thats a guy I would put stock in.

Before the GAP assembly line IMO…..

I have a secret smiff doing a lot of my work now.
Gonna break in a new barrel from him today.
Waiting to hear if he wants pimped on the Hide or wants to keep it simple n small

Thank you so much for the semi local smith who seems to be well recommended. Prior to seeing that I had a conversation with Preece Precision and liked what he had to say. Getting the barrel and reamer packed up and sent out to him today. Seriously, thank all of you. These are great conversations to have because things seem to change so often and it's great knowing that I have someone that's so well renowned that's only a couple hours away.
