This is what we should be doing with every single penny of Aid money. Aligning it with OUR national interest.

Great story... when Reagan appointed a new ambassador, he would always meet with them and take them over to a globe in his office. The question he asked them was "What country do you represent?" Invariably, they would go over to the globe and show Reagan what country they were headed to.

And Reagan always told them... "That's the country you are going to be ambassador to. The country you represent is The United States of America." He made damn sure that every ambassador knew that they were not being sent abroad to represent that country... but that they were there in the interest of the USA.

It's a damn good lesson for State Department officials who think they are in some country to help that country. NO. They are there to represent the People of the United States. If we can help... great. We should do that. But only if it aligns with our national interests. And if the country in question is not in alignment with our national interests, then the Ambassadors job is to make damn sure that we are not abetting them in trying to work against us.

As Churchill famously said: "Nations do not have friends. They have interests." (I am pretty sure that was Churchill... but I might be wrong.)

And there is nothing wrong with that. Nationalism, which helps countries become self-sufficient and helps them focus on the welfare of their own people, is a good thing. Globalism is a toxic plague on the planet. Yet Nationalism has been turned into a pejorative term by the very globalists who want to rule over a planet of serfs. Loving your country is the first step to turning it into a place you want to live and succeed. The world needs more of that.

IIRC, USAID was responsible for equipping the Somalis with boats and 'offshore fishing' knowhow. They weren't an offshore fishing culture.

Guess what the Somalis did with that aid and know-how?

Look up "Parachuting Cats" sometime and see how our aid has backfired time and time again... IIRC, that was a WHO mess... but same thing

It’s the modern equivalent of riding for the brand. I told my boss if he lays me off I will end up working for a competitor. I will use my knowledge to take every bit of revenue from my old employer to my new employer. That’s what they pay me for.

Yup... this is really true! And folks should remember that their 'contract' with an employer is realistically every two weeks... and is based on the paycheck and working for it.

The days of 40 years at a company and a pension went bye-bye in the 80's when pension plans and healthcare became unsustainable... under the weight of workers who put in 30 years, retired at 50 and then got entitlements for the rest of their lives. It was nice while it lasted... but IBM and US Steel collapsed under the weight of these concepts.

Every two weeks you renew your contract. Or not!

The truth is worse than that. Those same NGOs then lobby Congress for more USAID funding, and then support those politicians who do so with campaign contributions. It is all one big doom loop of graft where Democrat politicians and the people who run NGOs are the beneficiaries. I've said it a thousand times. They spend billions so they can steal millions, and now it is not just exposed, but Trump is cutting out the cancer.

I like the trajectory DOGE and Musk are heading. I suspect it will be revealed exactly how dimwits like AOC become multi-millionaires in a few short years on a $174k annual salary. It will be glorious to watch.

The louder the Democrats whine about DOGE shutting something down, investigating some agency or auditing an agency, reveals they have something to hide.
