Productive evening with the youngest son. 5 recovered, two or three more hit with 556 and ran off. The 100 ELD VTs out of the 6.5cm continues to impress, sitting them down. I was shooting cleanup for him.
This episode marks two firsts for me. This is my first video with the new Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XG60. It boasts a 4x base magnification which is nice for hunting open areas. It does this while still retaining a fairly generous 7.3° FOV.
This is the first time I have used a .204 Ruger for my videos. I do like the very minimal recoil, and it is super quiet when shooting suppressed.

Nice to see some 204 action. I’m a huge fan of it for pdogs. Never shot a coyote with anything, so it’s nice to hear your thoughts.
What caliber do you usually use for coyotes?
I have tried lots of calibers ranging from .17 up to .24 caliber for coyotes. I know it is a bit old-school, but my favorite has always been the 22-250 if mainly shooting coyotes.
@skinney_7 seems to like 22-250 too…not sure if he’s still using 22 Creed along side it.
If I can find some land to shoot on and find I enjoy coyote hunting, I had been thinking of getting a 22-250 barrel spun up. Thx for your info and thx for the vids you put out.

22-250 has been around for roughly 90 years. It started as a wildcat and is still a favorite among many predator hunters. It became more mainstream when it became factory cartridge by Remington in 1965. It has been a predator standard ever since. With that said, there still is usually only a few options available at most local sporting goods stores for non-reloaders. The 22 ARC and 22 Creedmoor are other more modern variants. They tend to shoot heavier bullets, but with a faster twist 22-250 barrel, it can also shoot heavier bullets. Who knows if these new variants will become the new standard or fade out in the future. There is always the .223 if you want lots of cheap options for factory ammunition.

I’ve been shooting a 6 creed with 87gr Vmax and as of this time, it’s my absolute favorite. I don’t keep fur but generally it doesn’t make a terrible mess of the hide, it hasn’t been exiting. I’ve had a few that were pretty nasty lookin wounds though. I’ve just been shooting factory ammo. I haven’t found anything that anchors coyotes better. Maybe a touch overkill at times but I want all my coyotes to drop where they stand. Had a few runners with my 223 when shooting 55gr Vmax.
