Need a PRS style stock for an AR15

    Ok,

    I’ve got a crazy LOP. I also tend to need a fair amount of stock height (eg cheek piece/comb adjustment).

    I find that the MagPul PRS is not long enough, nor does it get high end for your typical 1.5” rings. (That includes using the longer pads for the butt stock.)

    Are there any really adjustable options out there?

    I’ve tried the LMT DMR, MagPul PRS, and the B5 (not very usable with a bag due to lack of height)… I’m talking like Vision, MDT, etc. adjustability.

    MagPul: Does someone make a replacement cheek riser for the PRS?

    B5: The B5 is much more adjustable for length than the PRS, and they have a cheek pad that can clip onto the stock riser that can move forward about an inch or so; the butt pad ain’t awesome can’t add a thicker one, easy to remove), and there is no up / down pad adjustment. It is still very well made, and the fact that it’s installed on a milspec collapsible buffer tube and does not have any slop is wonderful.

    B5: One thing that was a small PITA: Due to the lack of height with the B5 you need to install a bag rider. The back most bottom M-lok position is internally blocked by the pass-through for the QC sling pass-through.

    B5: they are great people to get on the phone because you can have a good conversation about their products. Also military veterans and active duty folks get 20% off.

    I got to be honest, unless you’re legitimately diagnosed with something like Gigantism, then it’s more than likely that you’re doing something wrong. I’ve seen 1000’s of students over the years and I’ve never had a student, even the biggest among them not be able to get a fundamentally correct LOP with something like a PRS stock.

    I have been with Frank Galli at several of his courses… I have been scrutinized left and right only for everybody to agree that my set up is exactly the way it needs to be.

    …and flat out I have no problem shooting.

    I’m not using this AR for clearing and sweeping operations, and I have no interest in using rings that require me to scrunch down behind the optic / getting in the way of an extended charging handle.

    If the goal is increasing the LOP, with a collapsible stock that already meets the rest of your needs, use a longer receiver extension. The most common is the A5, which adds around 3/4", but there are a couple manufacturers who make even longer ones. Here are are couple of the longest that I know of from SMF Tactical, which will give you a longer LOP than any fixed stock that I know of using an A1/A2 rifle length RE. Just Right Carbines makes one that is not quite as long as these, about 1-1/2" longer than Mil-Spec, that is fairly inexpensive.

    Get some electrical tape and some plastic foam. Mock it up to fit. Keep adding until it fits. Then take the dimensions of your creation and make or look for something permanent...cause now you'll actually know what you need to properly fit

    I use the B5 also and it is hard to not like it. When I let other people shoot I just eyeball the LOP and instantly get a rifle that fits them. Magpul does not get anywhere near that.

    The B5 cheek riser / extender is absolutely well made also, but I added stuff (tape and plastic will do) between the riser and extender until it fit so well it would not come off even with inevitable knocks.
