This thread is starting to make a lot more sense. The "gunshop" in question is Cabelas/BassPro and the "salesperson" was some zit faced teenager that just got done feeding the fish and restocking the Bass Pro Shop trucker hats.

The salesmen are ALL old men, one that really messed up on this acquisition. It's a shame we got this far on the "burnt replies". I think you can get Burnt Ends right next door at that BBQ joint. This thread is starting to make a lot more sense. Ahh, a very logical hypothesis! Only a new barrel would not have firing pin witness marks.FP contact area 12 o'clock barrel looks pristine. 54's don't have 6 o'clock ignition do they? what the hell does the OP think is going on there?
The only thing I could think of is if the barrel was damaged and then re-installed by a gunsmith who fliped the damage to 6'o clock. That would require professional to get the timing right for the extractors, and possibly alter the OEM bbl length.

Here's a photo of what should be viewed on a used chamber. Brass residual at firing pin location @ 12 oclock. The one in question is pristine. Was the barrel flipped 180 by a gunsmith or the seller? Good observation from MA SMITH. Now maybe the 22.75 inch barrel adds up. I found it VERY strange is was listed like this when all other are 23 inch. Rounding errors or metric conversion, maybe it was measured by an uncalibrated stick? The stuff at where the round feeds I'm still not sure since I have not ever saw this. That being said, you can't tell anything from looking at a dirty rifle like this.
That area could be also be shaving lead from bullets out of the mag, and leaving residual dulling onto the 6 o'clock position. That could look like a rough surface, similar to FP damage.
Again 5 min with a Qtip and rimfire blend (ie lead remover), you probably get your answer.
May be just my bad eyes. but I don't see any extractor slots. Also looks like a cone breech. Anschutz never offered a cone breech on a 1710. Again could be just my eyes>I found a Anschutz 1710 at a DFW (Allen,Tx) vendor. I'll attach photos. Please tell me what I am looking at inside the action. The salesperson said this was from inserting a chamber flag. I told him that's ridiculous he expected me to believe that. I told him that, then he replied he would send it to be re-barreled. I came back to check if it was sent and it was still there, exact same condition! Not even an attempt to clean it up!
The chamber inlet bottom it appears to be very rough, perhaps cracked?
Also what throws me is the 22.75 inch barrel. It's that a normal size? It was NOT threaded.
Buyers beware.
No, it wasn't a window shopper, but I do think it's pretty easy to see. This thread continued as per your post. Trying to prove this powder thing, that looks nothing like the photo I posted. It was to alert others to be on the lookout. What part did you misunderstand?More residual powder in another gun…

Did this thread really start because a gun counter guy at Cabelas didn’t clean a used gun for a window shopper?
When I see a poster like this I realize what we lost when violence was banned from grade schools.
When idiots got beat up on the playground they were no smarter, but they were quieter.
I think it's trying to prove something, just not sure what.May be just my bad eyes. but I don't see any extractor slots. Also looks like a cone breech. Anschutz never offered a cone breech on a 1710. Again could be just my eyes>
We all know who went crying home. I have to say anyone who thinks violence is a solution is the idiot. When I see a poster like this I realize what we lost when violence was banned from grade schools.

The extractor slot is at approximately 9 o clock in the chamber picture posted in post 53. It is mostly obscured by the yellowish residual powder that the OP is having trouble identifying.May be just my bad eyes. but I don't see any extractor slots. Also looks like a cone breech. My post also mentioned the barrel length.
I also asked if someones previous photo was rimfire, there was no answer.
Why not move on to the intended reason of this post and not dwell on this powder stuff?
I am curious why some cant get passed it even after it was explained in detail.
Nice chamber pictures! I hate to admit it but I have had a couple chambers that more closely resemble that last one. They still were capable of nice groups though.
FWIW that model was $2600-ish new, 1710 HB with MDT XLR2 chassis, Freeland and others sold them.Way over priced for a 1710 unless it came with a nice scope
Yeah I know, crazy as I bought my 1712 for 1700 new. Yeah showing my age. Also there are no pictures of what the full rifle looked like. Price could be Ok, but Cabela’s is not known for their gun prices.FWIW that model was $2600-ish new, 1710 HB with MDT XLR2 chassis, Freeland and others sold them.
No idea on how good or bad newer model used Anschutz hold their value.

Why wouldn't I argue with the group of total jerks who just want to bash others. Actual professionals? So you ALL get paid to shoot? To the OP.
Son you are proving your ignorance with every word you type here. Do you realize that you have joined and are participating in a forum where actual professionals come to discuss their trade?
Why would you present a question to a group of professionals and then argue vehemently with the answers you get?
One of three things is at play here. Either you are a child, you are an idiot, or you are a troll.
The full rifle was not in question. The chamber area was.Yeah I know, crazy as I bought my 1712 for 1700 new. Yeah showing my age. Also there are no pictures of what the full rifle looked like. Price could be Ok, but Cabela’s is not known for their gun prices.
Some of the folks here carry a rifle for duty, or work, some here its their hobby. Why wouldn't I argue with the group of total jerks who just want to bash others. Actual professionals? So you ALL get paid to shoot?
All you are doing is chest beating. We all know more then you and name call like a bunch of children. Nothing professional I have seen.
Did you ever think I actually clean my guns often so I never saw this. No, the way you act is NOT someone I would believe. There was only one other poster who was logical. The rest just trying to prove what jerks they are.
The intent was to be on the lookout for this item. If I'm wrong, great. Go buy it!!!
The chest banging just continues. Children.
We all have the right to speak for what we believe.
BTW, zero of the photos posted resemble the junk that accumulated in the photos I posted. One was a handgun, wow what a comparison.
Some do resemble similar actions but that all.
If I want to survive? First, my position is NOT defenseless. It is only that with a you, maybe one other with nothing to do. You want to speak like you have been elected the group leader. You are not. It's obvious that people like you intimidate. You have done it a very long time. The trend now is to call out your type. You may have not noticed but this is NOT your world, or discussion group. Never will be.Some of the folks here carry a rifle for duty, or work, some here its their hobby.
There is a lot of knowledge in this community. This community will accept some level of ignorance (lack of knowledge), however they will not accept arrogance and stupidity. and stupidity is what you are demonstrating by your continued arguing against those who have more knowledge and experience than you do.
You have been given the answers to your questions.
Here is a piece of advice, If you want to survive in this community, eat some humble pie. Accept your ignorance, stop arguing a defenseless position, shut up and learn.
Also Mods can we move this thread to the bearpit please!
Yep, guess I never let mine get that dirty. Also the ring where the cartridge meets the chamber is missing on the one I posted. So again it was to post what appeared to me to be non typical, to point out to a potential buyer. I'm one who doesn't trust the vendor selling the hardware. This too shows it is not typical to me. It's is ok to have an opinion.
Well, that is destroyed...I wouldn't do this for just anyone, but send it to me and I will have it disposed.
How do you know the demographics of this forum? Wild guess I'm sure. Some of the folks here carry a rifle for duty, or work, some here its their hobby.

Can someone clarify.the ring where the cartridge meets the chamber is missing on the one I posted. So again it was to post what appeared to me to be non typical,
Thanks for the concern.Well, that is destroyed...I wouldn't do this for just anyone, but send it to me and I will have it disposed.
Let's see... Divorced, lived alone for a long time? I cant get a visual on anyone putting up with you in real fife.OP, You are truly the gift that keeps on giving.
BTW, no one suggested violence upon you. I did suggest getting the crap kicked out of you at age 8 would have improved your life in the long run. If you are older than 8 you are only a danger to yourself. If you are age 8 or younger, be careful on the playground.
Please in no way take anything said here as a threat. We like you. You are fun to watch.
Carry on.
Clear to see you are in fear of being booted. First backpedaling, now this. What are you going to do with all that spare time you'll have instead of 10,000 posts? Yep, and you call names, call ME a troll. Oh boy. It's very clear who the troll is. You just can't stop yourself from another foolish reply. You have been a distraction way too long. It's time to be reported. I did give you a chance. You are really focused on violence. Please see above. You are in no danger here except to yourself.
You are far too entertaining to hurt. Please show us the dirty rifle with the 1/4” short barrel again.
