Don't care if it's Bourbon , Rye , (Hand over Heart ) Tennessee , or Scotch . Whatcha got ?
I've been trying a few here 'n' there . So far came up with Angel's Envy and Ardbeg . Man I hate whiskey with that medicinal burn back end .
Enlighten me with some smooth sipping libations .

Either The Colonel (EH Taylor) or Weller 107. Cleaned out my EHT stash the other day getting ready to move...

    Scotch:
    Glenmorangie LaSanta or Quinta Ruban.
    Glenfiddich Burbon Barrel 14 year.

The LaSanta is my favorite scotch, always keep a bottle handy.

I keep Buffalo Trace for people who want whisky but are going to commit a sin and pour a mixer on it. It's cheap but still decent by itself if a little bland.

I just had some Whistle Pig bourbon last night. 4 Roses single barrel select is always in the cabinet, along with Horse Soldier.

    scotch, Glenlivet
The Glelivet founding fathers is a great inexpensive scotch. It replaced the 12 year old single malt when they ran out and couldn’t keep up with demand.

Other Scotish smooth examples without a medicinal finish I can recommend would be anything from the Speyside area. Avoid the western isles from experience, personal distaste for Laphroig 🤢

I prefer a drop of water to take the edge off. No ice of course.

If you want smooth with little burn, look at Basil Haydens. (Not my thing, but keep it around for guys in the same boat as you).

The woodford double oaked is avail at Costco locally and is good.

My go to is Michter’s Rye.
They have a couple other good ones and the Rye is it for me.

Have enjoyed drinks from many a high end bottle (all the Weller’s, EH Taylors, the limited runs of barrel proof and toasted).
There is a lot of good whisky out there.

The one’s I mentioned all come in below $50/bottle and are easy to find.

I don't drink Scotch over Irish much but I do like Macallan 12 and Dalwhinne 12-15. I just can't do the peat bog stuff, Dalwhinne is as peaty as I will ever go and enjoy it.

Has anyone else noticed that tastes change over time? What I used to enjoy now is too syrupy and I have found that I like a decent burn. Not just scotch, but everything. Vodka, tequila, all of it. And what’s crazy is I can taste floral notes. Same thing with tobacco - cigars and and pipes tobacco has gone from smooth to nuanced to sledgehammer. And yet there is still something in all of it I didn’t catch before. And then there are the standbys that just get better. Maybe I have traded tinnitus for taste buds. Or maybe I have learned to actually slow down, enjoy the moment and pay attention.

Michter's Rye is fantastic and a great value

Hard to source around here but Redbreast 12 is a go to. Redbreast 15 or Powers? That's a damn miricle but I load up when I find it. As a side note... Went to a birthday party and they must have had 800 Fireball shooters. Not wanting to be a bad guest I partook. HOLY FUCK! What was I thinking?!?

My all time favorite is Redbreast 12 cask strength. But it's pretty pricey so I usually have Redbreast 12 in the cabinet. Favorite scotch is Aberlour A'bunadh, bourbon Four Roses Small Batch Select, and Tennessee Whiskey is Uncle Nearest 1856.

Scotch is about all I drink now days. Single Malt no blends unless the bar sucks and only has Deward's and JW. My go to is Glenlivet 12, Glenfiddich 12 or Craigellachie 13. Oban 14 is another great scotch. Speyside is the best though Highland has great scotch too. Ice and a splash of water.
