I spend my Guard time in a LRS unit, and this type of comms (HF) was a key task for us. Coming from Rgr Rgt on active duty, it blew my mind when I learned that people could communicate around the world without satellites, which we relied on totally overseas. The RTO really needs to know his stuff, and how to troubleshoot in the field!

Its an old way of comms, but still easily jammable and honestly probably easier to jam than SATCOM in many ways. Just another way to have comms on a PACE Plan.
