02/17/2025 Virginia would-be mass shooter SHOT DEAD in supermarket parking lot by a shopper with a CCW.

CROZET, ALBEMARLE COUNTY VA
02/17/2025

A man who some social media sources had described as 'just having been involved as the aggressor in a heated road rage verbal exchange' prior to this incident pulled into a Harris Teeter supermarket in Crozet, Virginia, retrieved a rifle from his vehicle, and began shooting indiscriminately at shoppers entering and leaving the crowded store at around 1:00 PM. An SUV with a retired nurse sitting inside was pumped with multiple bullets first, leaving the woman occupant in critical condition. The shooter, now identified as 28 year old Justin Barbour, then turned his rifle onto shoppers at the supermarket's entranceway. His next fusillade struck and killed a 43 year old customer leaving the store. Another shopper, an off duty federal agent, heard the sound of gunfire, drew his personal CCW, identified the active shooter and returned fire, hitting him multiple times. Barbour, the shooter, was pronounced dead on scene by arriving first responders.

The deceased would-be mass shooter, 28 year old Justin Barbour:

Moral of this story: Carry and be ready everywhere and anywhere. Also train comprehensively to make sure that not only you CAN hit what you are aiming at under stress, but you can also do so with minimum rounds fired. The armed shopper's rounds came very close to striking a couple of bystanders as he was exchanging fire with the gunman.

There is absolutely no doubt that an armed patron of the store had stopped what would have been a mass casualty and possibly hostage/standoff situation based on how eyewitnesses described the shooter's movements towards the crowded store and the fashion in which he was firing that rifle.

We don't care about the suspect, who is the good guy??

They have not announced the identity of the armed shopper who stopped this maniac as of now, possibly because he is an off duty federal LEO and there are additional internal hoops they have to navigate before putting him on camera.

They updated that the critically injured retired nurse, 68 year old Diane G. Spangler, had passed away from her injuries. Damn...

Provide a source for this please.
There isn't one. Colorado does NOT have preemption, so local authorities can restrict carrying (open or concealed). I don't know whether any have or not, but penalties are limited to ejection from the premises and up to a $50 fine. I think it would take significant stupidity to be subject to such.

All the clowns wanting to carry baby size 380 and 9mm that have nothing but issues. I normally carry 2 pistol a full size always and revolver in the pocket for back up. A good holster and sturdy wide belt goes a long way for all day comfort.

Shoulder holster is my preferred carry method for big black powder and cartridge hoglegs. They feel natural whether inside or outside a heavy ranch jacket. I also feel more comfortable with and is much faster drawing from my left chest area, easier to do so also while crouched behind cover in case of an active shooter situation. For warmer weather sans the jacket, if I am carrying a hogleg it is riding in a haversack just like how Inman carries his LeMat in Cold Mountain. With one strap off the right shoulder it is very fluid to simply swing the sack off the left shoulder and towards your left side and pull from the pouch where the gun is. In the city where normally I might not carry, a BIG Cold Steel T-handle dagger rides on that shoulder rig instead, and inside the jacket.

I picked up a charter arms Boomer. Once i feel its reliable its replacing the pocket j frame. 44 special with lead hollow point should make a bigger hole splatter out the other side.

Is t there a big gun control bill going on in VA right now…

So mass shooting is right on schedule???

I mean until Kash is confirmed… seems like these things will keep coincidentally Happening. Probably keep happening after, too.

Hey DOGE… can you look into payments to mass shooters families from USG?-

I am curious...how often does a self defense scenario result in a person running out of ammunition and/or being ineffective in stopping the attack? And what was the self defense weapon used?

I have read where the average self defense shooter fired 2 rounds to end the event , my 340 has 5 . I am 71 years old my 100 yard pistol days are over but my will to live is still strong . My choice of weapon is the 340 because it checks the boxes of knock down power, concealment ,simplicity ,weight, easy draw and shared 357 ammo with wifes 2.5 python . It is imho a purely defensive DAO weapon at very close range , i simply do not have faith in my skills anymore that i once had to shoot 25 yards or more especially with a 1.88 barrel .

Indeed. The most effective self defense weapon is the one you are most proficient with, and one you will consistently carry. If you cannot hit anything, and more importantly do not even have it on you, it is of no value.

I open carried a 1911 working security and ranch work but concealed, no. PITA literally, to try and hide it on me and always felt like people were looking at me when i went in a store.

My Shield rides nicely on my hip under a vest or flannel shirt, even when driving. It's not my trusted 1911 but it's the gun thats on me if needed and thats what counts.

It’s only banned for the ones stupid enough to comply with such a rule.

Once again, the beauty of concealed carry.
Judas freaking priest. This is why we are losing the war of attrition, because people like YOU are the most common gun owner. When you lose, you won’t even admit that you have freakin lost.

Right now, Colorado is passing one of the worst gun laws in the history of this country and people like you are going around pretending nothing‘s happening.

Gun owners fight like little girls.

Do you think the gays won the ground that they have won by losing, and pretending they’re winning?

Do you think motorcyclists rolled back helmet laws across this country, while seatbelts became ubiquitous, by pretending helmet loss didn’t exist?

Do you think that marijuana people are legalizing marijuana across this country by pretending that marijuana laws don’t exist?

What is it that makes gun owners, as a demographic, so stupid?

You firing off 357s in that beast? If so, GDSB 135 or Golden Saber 125? Such an easy gun to pocket carry; though as you said it's a PERSONAL defense weapon, that's about it.

With sport seats in vehicles, OWB becomes an issue for me at least. Maybe I should go appendix carry for that and for my shoulder mobility issues.

Thoughts and opinions on anything from 365 to say G17 sized with sport-seats (think Recaro here) - edit...I should have said holster-wise...not gun wise. Sorry folks.

hornady 125 gr JHP flex tip for CC/home and 38 sp for range time with 5 magnums just before i leave .....it has made me bleed a couple of times and chipped a nail lol....it is brutal with magnums but manageable for me , i can fast draw and put 2 quick point aim rounds center mass at spitting range ....that is why i got it and of course its 14 oz loaded weight

glock 43x aiwb works pretty good for me. i think it's perfect size between small enough to hide and large enough to hit stuff, plus with aftermarket mags holds 15 rounds. i know i print some but no one has ever indicated that they've noticed.

Never shot the 125 Hornady 357. The Golden Saber is soft as is the 135. But a full 158gr (say an S&B) is just too much.

I use a garrett IWB for my sw 340 appendix carry and do minor seatbelt /shirt adjustments in my 987 porsche i also have a kramer IWB for my 2.5 python and that too carries ok in the car .....i prefer the 340 to CC but shoot better with the colt.

I'll go IWB bellygun when its 200 degrees and t-shirt and shorts weather here. Or just carry in my cargo shorts pocket.

Yes...the Porsche seats...great support & IMO the most comfortable long-drive seat made...not so gun friendly :(. But I can see appendix working just never done that; but not 3-4 o'clock OWB carry. If I pocket carry, I almost forget about it. OWB....gotta have a good belt - period.

Porsche...it's like your own portable amusement park. (still their best add ever).

I do mine myself (with the spin on oil filter kit from LN Engineering), though not PDK stuff - I keep toying with that; but....I'd have to have a lift or mini lift, and the computer tool, the700+ dollar fluid and filter - all of which MAY be cheaper than the dealer.

I am lucky i can afford the dealer because i am just too damn lazy to do it myself.....a re-tired self-employed auto/truck repair and towing business owner
