New GPO Super Compact MPVO 4-16 x 44i FFP mil shipping late May

Dropped at shot without much fanfare, but I think this scope is worthy of discussion.

Built a new DMRish rifle that is waiting for this. I have one ordered via Cameraland & according to GPO these will be shipping in the next 2 weeks.

Checks a lot of boxes for me. Pretty high hopes for this one.

  • It's short, really short
  • Hope to add a clip on & rail space shouldn't be a problem
  • German Glass
  • Japan assembled
  • FFP mil
  • 10 mil per rotation locking turrets
  • Zero stop
  • Parallax down to 10y
  • Illuminated reticle
  • 20oz
Maybe I'm odd, but still like the Valk & built a new one. 18" 7T Special run Proof.
It will be topped by the Axis of Evil. GPO (German + Jap) & Audere mount (Italy).

The challenge for this scope will be finding mounts short enough. I know the Audere will fit so I have a 20moa on the way.
Max mount length for the scope is 4.3"

I really wanted to run the Tier 1, but it'd be a $350 gamble as to whether or not it fit. Available max supposedly is 4.3" & the Tier 1 is 4.291"
Will report actual once I have the scope in hand.

Reticle is pretty basic mil based.

What I was told by GPO is that this scopes Glass is German & all parts are sourced from the German HQ, but it's likley not every component is German.
Parts are QC'd in Germany and sent to Japan for assembly. The scopes are then returned to Germany for final QC & then shipped from there.

This is a reasonably priced scope that I'll gladly pay + $100 over an Athlon for. I also like TMR reticles so the basic mil hash is fine with me. Sometimes simpler is better. I've currently got XTR 3 (Both US and Philippines), Leupold MK5 HD, & Steiner T6Xi all 18x on AR's to compare. All are more expensive scopes with + 2 on the top end. I don't expect this to be their equal, but if it's functional I think it'll be a great option. I don't typically dial to min power anyway & if I need close I'll through a dot or irons on it to supliment the bottom end.
Any updates on long term use? Thanks

No long term use yet.

Tried to get a few shitty iphone pics through scope.

The water tower is 886y and parallax is set to infinity. Max power 16x. Sun is full out to the right and you can see Chromatic aberration on the tree branches to the left. It only shows up on objects far closer than parallax setting. Don't know if this is normal, but it doesn't bother me as long as what I'm focusing on isn't purple.

113 yards to base of tree at center reticle.

I have one here and started looking at it. It looks like a pretty nice scope so far. The reticle is not ideal, but workable. It is indeed odd that they did not just put the LRi Pro reticle into this one. The reticle they have is, for all practical purposes, P4FL without the stadiametric rangefinder. It is perfectly usable, but a little old-fashioned. Having spent a significant amount of time with P4FL, it is a very familiar sight picture for me.

I ordered one this morning form Camera Land. Opted for the 3-12x44i. This will go on my sons 6.5 Grendel AR which is mainly for hunting. Capped turrets and the I-Control reticle illumined (Duplex). I should have it by early next week and will post up some pics and thoughts.

Too bad they don't offer the 3-12x44i in FFP with Mil-FFP reticle, the 4-16 doesn't do it for me but the 3-12 would with wide FOV, but SFP is a non starter...

The field of view is pretty damn good @4x for a 30mm scope.
I’m used to the TMR reticle in the MK5 & it’s so easy to dial elevation that I kind of prefer the uncluttered reticle on this. .5 mil is a little coarse, but I can see them at 4x. Any finer and I’d probably need to be at 6-8x before they’d be usable.

Pardon the mess. About to clean the bench and load up some Valkyrie ladders.

Just got the Sunshade for this.
Part # A353 if you need one of these. Should be in stock at Camera land.

Searching this scope led me to this thread.
Looking at a few scopes for my Ruger American Ranch in 6mm ARC.
Narrowed it down to this GPO, the Athlon, helos 2x12 and an Arken.

Anyone mount one of the above on a bolt gun? GPO being the shortest overall length has me wondering how it will fit.
Another forum I'e been a member of holds "drop tests" and the Athlon has failed two of them. I still like the feature set it offers.
Arken just interests me for the features and price.
I could buy but I don't think for what I'm doing need a thousand dollar optic.

I only own one GPO product, the GPOTAC45 spotter. Needed a beat around spotter with a reticle. I have been pleasantly suprised with it. Actually pretty damn good glass and resolution over probably 80-85% of the mag range. Don't have a clue about there other stuff but the spotter is a very good value for the money spent.

Presuming your action has a full bridge pick rail it would be easy to mount using separate rings.
It's so short that it limits the options for cantilever 1 pc AR type mounts.

Though I have the sfp model and not the ffp that most are interested in, my son and I have shot about 250 rounds under it and it’s been carried in and out of SxS and trucks since November. Been dropped once and banged on a few times by my son(he’s 9). Shot a turkey and a hog. Scope is solid no issues. Didn’t track test it but turrets adjust as should. Still a young scope but we like it a lot so far
