A quick review of a Glock 47 with some modifications. It started out as a stock 47 MOS. To the pistol I added the Radian Ramjet (barrel and compensator). I chose the Trijicon SRO as the optic. I replaced the plastic sites with whatever was on sale on Amazon at the time and I added a Tacticaltrigger pack (new shoe, shorter pull and reset, minus connector). I decided to clean the pistol this weekend because I just hit the 50k round mark and thought I would give a review.

I keep a Rite in the Rain notebook in my range bag. I use little picket fences on the first page to keep track of round fired. I also write down failures and sometimes color metaphors when I have a bad day at the range. In 50k rounds, this pistol had 12 failures and 8 of them are because I did not read and follow directions. (The Radian documentation recommends 124 grain or higher ammunition to ensure function). When the pistol was new, I had some failures to eject with 115 grain range ammo. I had a few light primer strikes at the beginning of February, and I replaced the firing pin spring ($4), and solved the problem.

In terms of performance, I can easily do sub 2 second bill drills with all a zone hits with the Glock. From the holster I can do the same drill, but mag dump 20 round in 4.1 to 4.2 seconds. If I bring something like a Shadow 2 or a 2011, I may pick up a 1/10 of a second or two in both drills.

I used to compete all the time, now not so much. I shot a carry optic qualifier last year with my Glock 34 and hit Master (this pistol has talon grips and the same TacticalTrigger). I took the Glock 47 to another qualifier and shot open with it because I thought it was funny, I placed 4th out of a field of 31 and again hit Master.

The pistol does not show any unusual wear. I shoot whatever crap 124 grain ammo happens to be cheapest on ammoseek or sgammo. I was surprised at the amount of filth that came off the pistol but 50k rounds without a cleaning will do that. Glocks are fantastically reliable firearms; I highly recommend them.

How do you like the 47 compared to the 17?

Also, that MOS plate on the 47 looks rough lol!

The only difference in the 47 is shorter dustcover and same spring from a 19. So, you shouldn't be able to tell a difference. The only reason the 47 exists is to make parts interchangeable with g19 so agencies who use both don't need multiple SKU's of items that perform the same function.

Also, I believe Glock is discontinuing the g17 and will only have the g47 going forward since the 17 offers nothing the 47 doesn't.

The G17.5 recoil spring was actually made longer at some point. It produces a unique recoil impulse to that gun. I was curious how the shorter recoil spring acted with the longer, G17 length slide. It's nuanced but there absolutely is a felt difference between guns when recoil springs, slide mass and location of said mass is altered.

It's a byproduct of USPSA nerdisms. :)

I had a G47 MOS and a G17.5 with the slide cut for an RMR at the same time. I agree that there wasn't a big difference shooting them unsuppressed. However, with the same ammo, using the same Glock threaded barrel, the G47 would not cycle a lot of ammo that the G17 would cycle. Both with all of their factory parts, both with a Holosun EPS on top. Suppressors were a Tirant 9M and Fly 45. I also have/had a Gen4 G34, G48 and G43x, which would all cycle the ammo suppressed that the G47 wouldn't. I ended up selling the G47 due to this. Just a sample of 1.

Thanks for taking the time to give us more info. I run an STI edge, and CZ S2 in comps, but I have a lot of glocks for edc. A couple of them have had some work done on them, and I would have no problem running them in a match. It is easier for my wife to grab a Glock, and shoot, and not have to worry about all the safeties, or buttons to push, or hammers to cock on a 1911 style pistol. Sometimes simple is better.

As you can tell from my post, I did not have issues but I also was not shooting suppressed. While I love Glocks they are not my favorite pistol platform for shooting with a can (hint HK is).

My G17.5 definitely tracks better and flatter than anything else I've tried that is based on a G19 length recoil system. There is definitely something positive going on with the .240" longer recoil spring setup in the G17.5/34.5 over previous generations. 147gr loads track the best for me through the G17.5. I have previously run a G34.4 for years in IDPA and USPSA. It tracks the best with 125gr loads, but no spring or load combination with it beats the ease of tightly grouped follow up shots as the G17.5 with 147s.

Out of all the aftermarket recoil spring combos I have tried in the G17.5, none of them beat the stock dual recoil spring assembly for tracking.

If you do choose to experiment with aftermarket recoil springs in a G17.5, make sure you put a .240" spacer on the guide rod so that springs will be at their rated installed length. As far as I know, all the springs on the market for the full size frame 9mm Glocks are still based/rated on the Gen4 and earlier recoil assembly length. Without the spacer, there is hardly any spring energy left to ensure reliable barrel lock up into the slide.
