RIP "Popeye..."

No fans of Mississippi Burning?
I LOVE that movie... and, another one that I forgot he was in!

He played one of the old dinosaur FBI agents against Willem Dafoe's "new age" attorney Kennedy-hire. Who were the agents that Hoover HATED. But had to hire because of Bobby.

An utterly superb film. Also had a great role by R. Lee Ermey, as well. Francis McDormand, too.

Thanks for that... I totally forgot to add that one in! I need to go look at IMDB, because I bet there are a ton of films that I've forgotten. Again... a tribute to an actor that is so good... you forget he was acting.

So went to IMDB and here are some movies I love... And didn't remember Gene Hackman is in!

Absolute Power (1997)
Wyatt Earp (1994)
The Firm (1993) An incredible movie!
Class Action (1991)
Loose Cannons (1990)
Target (1985)
Under Fire (1983) Sleeper film... good!
March or Die (1977)
Bonnie and Clyde (1967) Bit part.

There are more, I am sure. But, yeah, like Clint Eastwood.... in just about everything I liked. And a lot of what I liked he was in!

It’s been ages since I watched that movie. It had been on one of the steaming services lately. Maybe need to watch it again

When I am scrolling through the retard shit that is any kind of directory....

Eventually up comes Mississippi Burning

There is a lot of historical BS. But as a film that captures the real zeitgeist of the era.. few compare.

And Gene Hackman does great.

The Royal Tenenbaums was one of my favorites.

Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. If you are awake and about inside a building with it you get a bulging headache that should tell you but when sleeping you'll never know.
Seen the aftermath of a guy that ran the car in the garage with the door down. Guess he changed his mind somewhere along the way as he tore off his finger nails trying to get out. The body was just gross, and he was only there two days

CO is a toxic gas, whereas CO2 is a non-toxic gas. CO poisoning is not a pleasent way to die contrary to those who say you just peacefully go to sleep.

If you have not seen Young Frankenstein… you need to take a vacation from SH and not come back until you have binge watched it at least 9 times!!!

Sirhr

I haven't seen it either, but I do have a reason why. From what I gather you have to see the 3 actual Frankenstein movies before seeing Young Frankenstein in order to get all the jokes. I have no desire to ever watch the 2nd and 3rd again. Bride was trash and Son was trash filled with shit. The 1st is the classic.

High concentration or saturation of CO2 can be toxic as well. Make you nauseous.

Correct. We SCUBA divers who use "Rebreather" devices (with a "closed loop") have to worry about that. Part of the function of a Rebreather and the use of a "Closed loop" is that the machine should be scrubbing out the CO2 you exhale and replacing it with O2. You don't need that much O2 to replace, so a smaller tank can extend your dive by hours, literally. But if it's not working right, and the CO2 builds up in the loop, it could be fatal. The more the CO2, the less the urge to breathe, the greater the chance of death (same logic behind using a paper bag to assist with hyperventilation). You have to know when to switch to your "BOG" (Bail-Out-Gas) and do so quickly.

BTW, I mentioned "Poseidon Adventure" as it had a strong ensemble cast including, Ernest Borgnine, Shellley Winters (who actually swam like a pro underwater), Stella Stevens (who played Borgnine's wife), Carol Linley (who first sang "There's Got to be a Morning After"), Red Buttons, (who played Shelly Winters' husband), Leslie Nielsen as the ship's Captain, and a very... very young Pamela Sue Martin (first movie in which I saw her). All of these actors had to swim underwater for a bit.... including Pamela.... in her underware.... Hmmmmmmmm....

RIP…

Great actor and while he always said he was a lousy Marine… he did lie about his age to get into the Corps at 16!!

Loved his movies…. The Conversation and it s “sort of” sequel Enemy of the People….

The Package… Unforgiven… No Way Out. French Connection…

So many amazing movies!

Sad to hear of his passing.
Sad he's passed. His movies sucked in general...

Sirhr,

I am not trying to be insulting, but you obviously do not speak or understand German.

Correct… and I fell for a fake news story on Blucher!!! My bad!!!

I do however speak excellent mock German and can hum the Horst Wessel song if I have enough beer!

Actor Gene Hackman and Wife Betsy Arakawa Tested Negative for Carbon Monoxide Poisoning, Hackman’s Pacemaker Recorded Key Detail

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adam Mendoza has revealed the bodies of actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, have tested negative for carbon monoxide.

Sheriff Mendoza further revealed Hackman’s pacemaker recorded its last activity on February 17, which authorities now suspect was the day Hackman died.

A toxicology and autopsy report for the couple is still pending and is expected to take a month until results are revealed.

“The last “event” recorded on “The French Connection” star’s pacemaker was Feb. 17, Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza said Friday afternoon.

“According to the pathologist, I think it’s a good assumption that was his last day of life,” he told reporters, explaining that the date helps authorities build a timeline to determine what led to the couple’s tragic end.”

Started a rumor that the SDNY FBI field office transferred the Epstein files to Hackman on the 16th. Apparently, Patel and Bondi were seen in a black SUV in front of Hackman’s home on the morning of the 17th. Probably a coincidence.

Heard that as well. I will try to hold my judgment until we know more, if we ever learn more. I did hear that the dog died locked in the bathroom. Suspicious to say the least.
There's a study on pets eating their owners when they are locked in a house with their dead owners. Cats are more likely to eat their owners than dogs by a wide margin. Maybe he or she thought about it before they offed themselves? They could have put it outside but maybe that one was the favorite of the three?

I have told my cat to fire up the “barby” 🍖 and have at it! I can think of no higher honor than saving my pet from starvation after I have unexpectedly died.

In December I had a CO scare/check. Turned out to be a bug that was dogging me. That said, being older, living alone with a pet I took it upon myself to find a daily “check in app”. A friend found her friend passed out of the floor after 48 hrs. Fortunately she recovered after a long hospitalization.

The app is called “Snug” and is free. You set the time and contacts to be texted if you fail to check in. Works like a charm and gives me peace of mind that if I croak in my sleep, Shelby will be cared for right away.
