I have a Luna that has been “modified”. I’m pretty happy with how bright it is for long range illumination when used with a pvs27. My problem with it is how fragile they are. I feel like I’m going to snap it in half if my rifle bumps into something. Also the zero kind wonders as the adjustment screws seem to kinda float around.

I am looking for a replacement that can take a bit of a beating and also hold a good zero.

Has anyone compared side by side a Luna to a full power peq15 as far as long range illumination? I’m not worried about ir or vis laser brightness.

Or any other recommendations around that $2500 range that has as least as bright of an adjustable illuminator as the Luna but way more durable?

I can help with this. I have a Luna with the filter removed and my friend has a full power PEQ. The PEQ is powerful but I prefer the ability to adjust the intensity. Both look almost identical at full power looking through my PVS-27. I’ve used my Luna quite a bit and it is a bit fragile feeling but it works great and I can buy 6 Lunas for the price of a PEQ.

I don't think you need to worry about the Luna breaking, I don't think there have been many reports of this happening. However, if you don't mind buying Chai knees then you should check out the Holosun IRIS-3, it is a full power IR illuminator with IR/Visible laser, I think they have a new IRIS-1 which might be illuminator only...

How is holosun selling full power to the public and getting around all the rules which are holding back the other lasers?

I don’t know to be honest but they are, check out this thread

They scale the power so it reduces as the beam tightens at distance. Still might be worth trying.

I have been using a FP DBAL A2 for a few years. Slightly cleaner than a PEQ15 but still not great. My buddy has an NGAL and a FP VCSEL is so much easier to spot trace with.
