Haven't been on here in a while but in the market to toss a scope on a Kidd build I'm wrapping up. Spent the last 4 or 5 hours having some very informative and entertaining reads.

Was planning on grabbing the DNT, but while checking deals on some Athlon offerings, noticed they have an Athlon Ares ETR Gen2.

I couldn't find anyone reviewing the Ares Gen2 so I did email Cameraland to ask for their opinion on if the Ares was worth it over the DNT.

Figure if anyplace would have experience with it, would be here.

I don’t have firsthand experience with either, but Athlon makes a really good scope. I just ordered the DNT, and @FuhQ swears by it says it’s optically even better than the Arken EP5.
It’s better than the 2 EP5 5-25x56’s, and the 2 EPL4 6-24x50’s that I had… I have not looked through a new Gen 2 EP5 7-35x yet, but both @gr8fuldoug and @wooferocau say it’s optically superior to the Arken Gen 2.

Yeah... in my comparisons the DNT 7-35 is most defiantly better optically than the Arken Gen 2 7-35. The Arken has a sort of....."Halo'ing" effect on objects sometimes...the DNT has none of that. The DNT is also most definatley "Sharper" ..

The DNt without the consideration of price is an excellent optic ....factor in the price and its a superb optic !!
I have 4 of the DNT,s and one in particular has been subjected to extreme pushiment...so far not an issue !! :)

ETR Gen2 has just been anounced and there are very few in the wild. I have the DNT here and Athlon should arrive reasonably soon as well.

ILya

Apparently first batch of Ares ETR Gen2 sold right out and some of the few that got them were calling to know when more would be available. Outside of that I haven't learned anything else yet. Ill keep an eye out on your youtube channel and on here. Maybe if we get that 5k Doge bucks I'll just grab both and do up a CZ to keep the Kidd company.

No experience with The One but have several ARES ETRs and I have no complaints with them. The Gen 2 the elevation knob is upgraded and has a throw lever. I may upgrade to the Cronus on my NRL rifle and move the ARES to my AR308. But for the price I’m extremely happy.

I bet!

The turrets on my Ares BTR G3 2.5-15 are as distinct as my Cronus G2's except wider, edit/ and lower profile, both attributes I prefer.

I've called my Athlon sales rep several times in the past couple of weeks to try to place an order for at least a couple of the Gen 3 Ares BTR scopes, but have yet to hear back from him. Wondering if the trade war/tariff situation isn't causing problems?
Could be the rep as one of the reps from Athlons wife had a baby last week. If it's him that could be why.

I grabbed my ETR through Cameraland. It shipped out quick too. It seemed to come direct from Athlon.

I dont know if the tariff thing is affecting things yet but it is the reason I made my purchase sooner rather than later.

Speaking of which I need to grab a red dot for a shotgun and will probably grab it within the next week just in case.

I just bought my second DNT "THEONE" and I think they are really good scopes. I know everyone adds "for the money" to the end of that statement for most all of these chinesium optics, but the truth is, they are very good by most measures, in many aspects. I do notice the vignetting at the extreme end of the magnification range, and the eye box does get tighter as the power goes up, but that's to be expected for a $600 scope. The way I figure it, once I've maxed out the group size I can get with my chi-comm optic/high-end rifle combination, I will decide what to spend $2k-$3k on for maximum effect on target. Until somebody is sponsoring me or paying me to shoot, this scope gets the job done and then some.
