Out in the brush eastern wa.
Hello all

I’m thinking about switching out my Nightforce Atacr 4-16x42 to a 5-25x56 for hunting. I’ve used the 4-16 for a bunch of years now and killed a pile of critters, but lately I’ve felt like I’d like to have a little more zoom. I know they aren’t very light, it doesn’t bother me though. I’m in somewhat decent shape😂. I’m also a big fan of the Mil-R reticle.

Do any of you use the Atacr 5-25 for hiking and hunting? If so I’d sure appreciate some feedback back.

Thanks in advance
Bob

First, I'll mostly disqualify my answer by stating right off that I have zero 5-25 ATACR experience.

I do however have a 7-35, and part of my decision was the myriad of posts stating that the 5-25 was the optical midget of the ATACR line....meaning that it has the "worst" glass.

There isn't a lot of size difference between the 5-25 and 7-35, so if you wanted more magnification I'd suggest taking a look at the 7-35.

Just my .02 man.

Thanks for the reply, I’m also considering a ZCO 5-27x56. Those seem really nice.

I have a 5-25x56 and a 7-35x56 ATACR. Both scopes are fabulous. I have read about some complaints about the 5-25 glass, but mine and some others I have read about have no issues. If you need more mag, get a 7-35, if not the 5-25 is great. Every person who has looked through mine has been very impressed. I wouldn't part with it.

I know you may find a dealer who might ship you both to look at and just charge you extra shipping cost. A dealer sent me two 5-25 scopes with different reticles. I kept the one I thought I would want and sent the other one back. I just looked at the reticles and put the one back in the box and sent it. Good luck.

I have had nothing but good experiences with all of the ATACR line including the 1-8, 4-16 and 5-25. With my rifles I really don't shoot much farther than 600 yards when hunting and usually not more than 1k when punching targets.
