I got picked to to drop some old cans of CBU-58. It was a blast! The target was a plowed simulated airfield. Totally covered it with the 6 that we dropped.

Only bad part was that both my wingman and I had a hung bomb, so we both had to jettison a triple rack on the range. The squadron exec was not happy about that. I think he said they were $40,000 apiece (1985 dollars).

are they going for ugliest rat rod? ‘Cause that could qualify in my book. Or is it Trailer Park Tobo and the hottest car in the hood?

Edit: but weirdly, I kinda like it. Especially those Kragers. I also coveted those rims when I was young, but never wanted to spend money on things that didn’t directly contribute to performance.
I think it's photoshopped.

I can believe 40k. Barring bad carts, 462s screwed up

Love me some Rockeyes.

Govt cost. $500 hammer, $1800 toilet seat.....
Let’s see. Rated to carry about 2,000 pounds at up to 6 G’s, withstand supersonic airflow, operate in temp range from we’ll below zero to desert temps, require minimum maintenance, and be used over and over again for years.

I don’t think I’d want to depend on a low bidder rack hanging on my wing.

Have you missed how those contracts work? Ex CIA, FBI, congressman, with contacts, on the board of advisors of the low bidder. Contract is awarded, development costs are over budget and more money is awarded to complete the contract. Final cost is twice the price of the highest bid and project quality is sub par. End users functional issues.. meh, training accident.

I recall a story about a coffee maker that cost megs bucks to be used onboard AWACS. The news contacted the manufacturer who said, They want it to withstand X g-force without spilling. It’s going to cost more than a Mr Coffee.
