I believe his account was hacked possibly. Anyway got me for 950$ everything seemed legit and matched up. Would be nice to have some protections on this stuff since we now have to pay to sell.

Does it say out of country fee? Every time I send PayPal friends and family there is a small chargeWe as buyers are just gonna have to be more diligent, these dudes are learning how we communicate with chat GTP and other AI shit. I nearly got had the other day but noticed there was a fee on the PayPal friends and family transaction indicating the individual was outside the country. When I asked him about it he said he had a house in Spain as well that was linked to his PayPal so all his transactions looked like that, but at the same time he was messaging other 2nd and 3rd place buyers in the thread trying to get money. Guess he realized I smelled a rat. 3rd dude in line to buy was a good friend of mine and text me about it so I reported everything. This scammer’s communication style/language/grammar didn’t throw up any red flags to me. Only flag was the PayPal transaction. Just one example of how the scammer is evolving.
Dang I saw that fee to but I just assumed PayPal changed some policy or something. I definitely had warning signs in front of me I just didn’t know it at the time. Probably done buying on here honestly. I’m soured. I used to spot them a mile away because of the broken sentences etc. Never even thought of using ai for something like this. Pretty wild the lengths people go to steal. How about adding 2FA to the Hide login process? This fresh batch of scams and scam attempts all seem to have the same stink of them using hacked accounts. To car16smg’s point, if scammers are using AI to draft more believable convo, and it’s this easy for them to hijack a legit account with history and feedback, then we are running out of tools to protect ourselves as buyers, and private sellers’ reputations from years of honest transactions are all at risk too. This is fucking bullshit.

Thanks. Now I know what to look for.Yea it says something about a party being outside the country
If it’s too good of a deal, then it’s too good of a deal. Sooner or later they’re going to be taking peoples money buy offering $25 off retail. Or hell even mark shit up.
Unfortunately it was used from my PayPal balance. For what it’s worth, if you do send money via FF, there’s a good chance you can still recover that money or stop the payment if you move remove/transer the funds from the account it was drawn from quickly. PayPal generally takes a day or more to actually withdraw funds from your account.
2FA is a helpful feature you have enabled for any account holder that chooses to use it, thank you. Do you think it would be an additional aid to have a 2FA insignia next to an account user ID with the date it went into effect for an additional layer of integrity? It may have limited value in the beginning, but as that authentication date ages it would give more credibility. They ware working to update the PX and change some stuff so, we are working the issue
I understand, I acknowledged that.we have 2FA on the site
I have 2FA turned on and for some reason the other week when trying to log in, I wasn't receiving any codes to my email. 2FA isn't the end all be all, the codes can be intercepted. I'm not sure what happened, I submitted a help ticket and a few days later was able to get back in.I understand, I acknowledged that.
What is not known from a buyer’s point of view is if a seller is using 2FA and if not, that makes the account much more susceptible to hacking as you know. A hacked account with excellent feedback is an area where the success of the scammers is working.
Ebay has the trust ID insignia that verifies criteria of an account holder and I understand you may not want to get into all of that. An insignia or brief message such as “2FA since 2/15/20” could give more assurance to a person making a purchase.
They had a site email issue that affected all of us...I too couldn't get my 2FA codes and had to use one of my back up codes...then a couple of days later I got a set of delayed 2FA code emails when they cleared up the problem.I have 2FA turned on and for some reason the other week when trying to log in, I wasn't receiving any codes to my email. 2FA isn't the end all be all, the codes can be intercepted. It's funny, because that reddit has had a rule requiring photos showing hand written timestamps and serial numbers on optics since years ago. Guess that requirement didn't help very much, though some scammers are getting better at faking them in the first place, and obviously doesn't help if someone builds up feedback and actually has the item, but intends to screw everyone.Speed and hot items tend to keep these guys in business. Reddit had a TON of scammers on GAFS - especially NF scopes. One scammer screwed five people over from just one post, it was a NF 5-25 for 2k last year. That is 10k just from one damn ad! They all paid PP FF.
Doesn't help that PP gives two shits about the 2A community.
