Zeiss doesn't offer it the V6, you’d have to go to a V4 in a 4-16x44 or 4-16x50 for the ZMOAi-T30 or a 6-24x50 in a ZMOAi-T20

Other option to upgrade a bit would be the V8 N.A. in a 2.8-20x56 with the all new AHR Reticle. (this would be the best choice for the optimum setup of clarity and hold over options while maintaining the ability to “dial for distance”

Thanks for the info! Those are all too heavy for my application. I’m looking to stay in the 1# range. The V4 3-12 does that, but doesn’t have a reticle I can range with.

I have three lightweight first gen Conquests with the Rapid Z800 reticle that have MOA ticks in the top I can use with a milder master as a back up no battery range estimator if need be. They, however, don’t have target knobs and Kenton doesn’t make knobs for them anymore 😞. I wish I could find knobs for them!

I’ve looked at the Leupold, but they don’t seem to make anything around 16 oz in a SFP with a ranging reticle, CDS dial, and side focus from what I remember. They are all in the 22 oz plus range and the lighter ones either don’t have side focus or they have a wind-plex reticle instead of a TMR type reticle.

Maybe I should see if Leupold can put a mil-dot reticle in my old VariX-III 4.5-14 that I have Stoney point knobs on? It’s very light and those knobs work out to 600 yards very well.

I really need to upgrade my old glass, but I don’t think anyone makes what I’m looking for.

Open to ideas!! Thanks.

I reached out to my Zeiss tech rep with your reply to get his input and he had this to say:

"The 4-16x50 is roughly 4 oz heavier than the 3-12. The 4-16 is 22.9 vs 18.2 for the 44mm or 21.5 for the 56mm option
I know weight is an issue and I recognize that part of it for sure…but in this regard I think it’s a minimal increase for this application.
Getting to 16oz and hitting the desire for ranging is going to be tough in most cases.
Key reason in my opinion is when shooting longer distances where “ranging” is a key element of success, the shooter will want a parallax correction which inherently adds weight to the system.
The 3-12 being primarily a closer range option relies less on parallax so it’s easier to not have it in the system and still be relatively accurate for “most” hunting applications.
- food for thought-
On a personal note the 4-16x50 with the T30 reticle is what I took to AK for Caribou and to CO for Elk mounted on a Fierce 7PRC"

I did not realize the 3-12 does not have side focus, which is something I want. I suppose they leave it off for the same reason Leupold does with their VX5HD 2-10. I know, I’m obsessing over 4 oz of weight. What I’m seeing as options are the following:

1). Leupold VX Freedom 4-12x40 CDS with SF and Tri-MOA reticle 16 oz…….but it’s Leupold Freedom glass, not Zeiss or VX5HD
2). Leupold VX5HD 3-15x44 CDS-ZL2 SF HTMR 19.7 oz.
3). Zeiss Conquest V4 4-16x44 T30 22.6 oz

I forgot I have a Nightforce 2-10x42 MOAR sitting on a Blackfeather stocked M1A I rarely shoot. It’s around 22 oz weight wise. I should give it a try on this rifle and see how I like the balance and weight before committing to a new Zeiss or VX5. The only thing I’m waiting on to put this together is a 20” PVA Osprey from Josh that’s a .75” contour spiral fluted 300 WSM. Trying to keep the package around 8# total scoped and loaded.

Doug I appreciate all the direction!
