Since I am starting my longer range shooting adventure, I decided it was time to qualify for the 600yd range at the club I am a member at. It has 10" round steel at 150yds and 250yds. 12" round steel at 350yds, 450yds, and 550yds. At 600yds it there is a 18"x24" steel rectangle and various round steel. At the back of the range, 655yds - 660yds, there is a variety of steel target.

Went back out today to enjoy my new privilege...lol. I REALLY enjoyed it and am very glad to have access to it. Since I was the only one out there I decided to run my drone down the range (yes, I made sure they were cool with it) to send to some buddies. Thought I would share it here.

I am sure many here have access to better, but I think this is a pretty cool setup. Wish it went out to 1k...lol

I’m guessing there’s no spelling test.

Qualifying to shoot 600 yards is cute

You going to pop a fly off his ass with a Red Ryder for a challenge?

Na i'm actually trying to pop steel at 2k back there when his dumbass just walked on up 0 fs given. You can see and the 1100 steel straight above him. 2 plate is up in the trees on the troop line

He knows it ain't hunting season.
Was that pic taken last summer?
His horns should be pretty small this time of year.

Had a great herd of elk screw with us in Idaho.
All summer and into fall they were on public land.
We get camp set up the evening before and go out to and find them for the morrow's hunt.
They are nowhere to be found.
Get up early the next morning and into what we think is the position and come sunrise, still nothing.
A couple hours go by and we decide to regroup.
Heading back to camp we spot them. They are across the road on a different ridge and all of the property is clearly marked no hunting.

I think the fuckers can read.

Curious, how do you qualify for the 600 yard range? Is it more on safety to make sure no one is down range?
It was fairly easy. An RO goes with you and acts as a spotter. They want to see you hit each target out to 600yds. They pretty much just want to see that you know how to make adjustments with your scope for elevation and windage. I assume the concern is launching shots over the berm.

This is not unusual. It’s too bad, but many “experienced shooters” are completely incompetent at basic precision shooting tasks. Having a “qualification” probably just allows use without a range officer. Most of our ranges in Canada now have cameras everywhere too.

Bank 4 at our club is howling coyotes at 1000, bank3 is strutting turkeys at 950, Bank 2 (left edge of pic) is walking bobcats at 900 and unpictured Bank1 is standing groundhogs at 850.

I run a qualification to shoot this range as well. I basically want to see what equipment you are using and that you are capable of MOA shooting. The primary concern is keeping bullets in the berms and they're about the size of a short bus for the accuracy challenged.

This range is private and pretty laid back. It is open to members dawn to dusk 365 days a year. Members have a code to the lock on main gate and past that the 600yd range has a separate gate and a different code. When going into the 600yd range they ask you lock the gate behind you. There is a RO on site 8-5 Wednesday to Sunday, but honestly they are usually in the office or cruising around in a UTV. When a RO is on site the main gate stays open.

There are quite a few cameras on the premises, but I did not see any on the 600yd range.

That's so wild to me. We can shoot anything on the whole range at any time.

Behind our range is a few miles of state lands. The next hill about a mile from the line is impossible to shoot over though.

We can only go to 650 normally, but we can get day leases to setup steel on the state land and go out to about 1500 which we do for matches.

I joined a 1000yd range a few years ago we had to hit a 12" target at 800yds and tell the RO what the elevation was to hit the target.

That was it.

They just wanted to make sure you were actually shooting your rifle not launching small caliber artillery over the berm....LOL

Behind this range is a private farm land. I guess they are trying to protect the grazing cows...lol

If you want to take it further and can travel, theres a nice little range in San Saba Texas that goes to 2K. As of now you have to sign up for a class. Photo is me at a mile, 3 out of 4 hits, one just outside the orange box. That was with a stock Bergara, got a better rifle now looking for the 2K this spring.

That is a sick looking range. I don't mind some travel, but that is 10hrs from me.

Gotta be just liability concerns. I shoot one range around here that has several set ups 700, 800,1200,1760yds with no quals needed and one range has a 550 and 1000 that does require it. That shorter range does have some more traveled roads and homes around it and he requires a profociency qualification to be in the club and shoot the 550yd and then another one to shoot the 1000yd. Even though the range is membership only, numnuts can be everywhere. I get it. Guy doesn't need a range officer to cover his tail and you can go anytime you want sunup to sundown. The 1000 qualification is not bad at all for any distance shooter and still something like 70% fail it, so it's easy to see his point. The unititiated probably don't need to be left to shoot their new 338 Lapua they got to be a long range shooter towards a road/homes 500 yards through the trees from the 1000 yd berm. One nice thing about it, the qualification requirement of the 550/1000yd range means a lot less traffic on the 1000 yard section. Most times you can have it to yourself.

Where's your range?

We have a range in Pascagoula that goes to 1000 YDS and there is steel out to that distance.

Access to the 600+ road has it's own gate with lock.

Current rules are that anyone can shoot from the bench on that side, but you have to be qualified on that side in order to go downrange and set up or change targets.

Which range in Pascagoula? In Hattiesburg area nothing past 200. Place used to shoot shut down and only had 450 max range.

Congrats on the 600yards...
Is the next goal 1k, then 1 mile, then 2?

Any time I see 550 yards mentioned, I have to guess maybe Woodys in NC?

Nice range OP. It’s easy for those of us in the Mountain West region to take our vast LR opportunities for granted.

Anything you can do to stretch your legs in the region you live is great.

It was really hard to find anything LR when I was in North Carolina.

In Colorado, Utah, WA, CA, ID, NM, TX, NV, and AZ, we have all kinds of LR locations.
