Rifle Scopes Scope is bottomed out & shooting high

30mils in the vortex hd3-15 vs 24 in a gen3 area btr 4.5-27

How far from the edge of travel on the vortex were you?

It would be 15u/15d vortex and 12u/12d ares mounted flat
Shift that 30moa=8.7 mils for the mount leaves us with 23.7u/6.3d vortex and 20.7u/3.3d ares.

Mechanical shifts stacking I can see that you are out of travel with that much cant on a nonextreme travel scope.

I didn’t check to see how much was left on the vortex. Is there a different mount or base that would fix this, or do I need a different scope?

This was at 50 yards

Just a check of specs quick that scope shows 80 moa of travel. So half that for 40 moa. Add your 30 moa mount and you should still have 10 moa left before it theoretically bottoms out

At 50 yards 4” high would be about 8 moa. So although you’re relatively close you should still be able to get a zero or closer to it then what you are

I would check the zero stop first. Otherwise a scope with more travel or a 20 moa mount would be options. But even another 10 moa less on the mount would put you about 2 moa from the scope being bottomed out at 50 yards in your situation.

I always try to leave more at the bottom of travel so the scopes not playing at max adjustment ranges all the time

I have never messed with a zero stop that’s like this one. I just assumed it was not set at any specific point from the factory, but when I bottomed out the turret and took it off, the zero stop ring was hitting so I just took the entire ring off, which let me move about 6 1/2 more mils so I think I should be good. I’m going to try it again tomorrow, but this should do the trick.

Sounds like you got it figured out!
