"Draining the area has been slow and difficult due to ground water seepage," it said.
"This will be a long and difficult recovery operation, but we are absolutely committed to bringing our soldiers home," said Curtis Taylor, Commanding General of the 1st Armored Division.
Unfortunatly looks like they will find 4 suffocated soldiers once they actually manage to get the vehicle out.

I am certain miltary has some fancy temporary road way fo such conditions but till then logs would do.
Looking at the footage they would be better of with some local civilian contractors

Recovery of recovery… You simply cant fix stupid and knowing what terrain you operate in and your own weight would of course prevent such mishaps. Sanction the marsh for daring to stand in the way of exceptionality…

No , they way they are working looks like one step forward two steps back all riding on one low ground pressure hyundai excavator .
It seems the plan is to dig their way to the M88 so divers could attach cables to try and pull it out with bunch of other M88 .
They are puting sand bags around in an effort to dam the dig site ,not quite sure how well that will work ,it will definetly take long time since only that Hyundai is capable of working the terrain.

Getting 70ton shit out of marshes without major land works simply will not happen. Dont know the terrain but if its true marsh without some good roads nearby they might have to leave the steel there for the posterity to find some hundred years later if things dry up.

So excuse my lack of sentiment for those who clearly made a major mistake in operating heavy vehicle on what should be known terrain but only goes to show what would happen if us (god forbid European - i know it doesnt fit into sentence the combination of army and Europe more like boyscouts) got itself into real ground operations in big scale. You would fail spectacularly not because (or not only) of fighting force being inadequate for the intensity but mainly because of the logistics as stuff you guys build is simply too big and too heavy. Only real vehicle that stands out is Bradley which seems to work well.

Looking at this 5 days in they are not even at the stage they should have been on day one. It just looks awful as they haven't isolated the sink site by damming it off in any meaningfull way , they threw in some big bags filled with sand. Amateurs with limited resource would have improvised with log piling , a construction company would have used steel sheet piling to dam off the hole. In marshy terrain these things are easy to drive in even with that Hyundai on floats and if need be they can be reinforced in many ways.

Watching the video it sounds like there's a possibility that they are not sure if they are even in the right place. No one has even said that they have located the vehicle.

Given they brought in some sonar probes , i imagine they have the positions , as far as we ar told they are looking for tow hooks on the vehicle. .

They had divers at one point. Wouldn't they have told the divers where to find them on vehicle? Granted divers would've probably have had to find them by feel as probably no visibility in that crap. ( I've been certified diver for 25 years, admittedly been awhile since my last dive)
2 cables have been attached ,winching soon....seabees [divers] to the rescue
They have a couple of m88's there so divers can go hands on before going into the water , i had a towing service in NJ and showed a recovery team where to secure the cable and how to install a steering wheel lock if needed / take out of gear etc on a nearby pick up truck before they went into the water at a pre dive safety meeting. 2 M88 should be able to pull it out but not lift it out , they can drag many tons using snatch blocks and the main winch but the lift boom has a much smaller capacity, once they break the suction its coming out made much easier if it not on its side or upside down . They might check the hatches before breaking the surface....................dignity wise....they are coming home
