Civil asset theft should only be used following a conviction. I believe that was how it was intended, but it morphed into the debacle that it's turned into.

Not sure why people carry thousands of dollars in cash. Makes no sense to me. I always have $500 but that is it.

I think the greater concern with this is more "road/highway" travel than air travel. Because then they can also take other property... like "Firearms, etc." I've only encountered this once, during my heyday of flying. I was departing EWR for FRA (Frankfurt). And, yes, the US Customs Bureau (before CBP) had set up tables to check people as they boarded right at the gate. It appeared they were only targeting certain people because they let most others go. They let me go as well. And I even dared to stare one of them down (a female) and, yet, nothing. They were all in "plain clothes" (mostly jeans, etc.) if that makes a difference.

Let’s say you’re doing business in Asia, and needed ~ $2,000 in “loose change” for various odds and ends.
You take a flight from MS to a state with an international hub, say GA or CA.
And they swipe your cash during the domestic leg of your trip.
Remember all this is because the STUPID "Good People" were all brainwashed into some stupid frenzy and were tossing their rights on the the bonfire willingly, demanding the government "do something about this war on drugs".
As usual the fools that most "good people are" were happy to gleefully and joyously forge chains for others all giddy and ecstatic that the government could now seize stuff "from those evil drug dealers" without due process because, who needs due process anyways and "oh it will go to help our children"...
Then later on they start complaining about the evil Uniform Hangers being bandits with badges and road thieves in uniform, when they were warned by those they ignored that this would be the exact outcome...
Of course the greedy evil Uniform Hangers are all in on it, because they got stupid vile qualified immunity and then on top of that you gave them bonus points or profit sharing or extra bonuses for doing it and well let the taxpayers hold the bag for any problems.

Nope. Never got a response. I watched them take it right out of my backpack $200 in cash. I had TSA PreCheck and was flying about 90k miles a year in the US for work. The "supervisor" said he couldn't see it in the camera.
I have friends that are LAPD and LASD. The LASD guy worked the area near the airport. He told me they used to pull over TSA employees all the time with warrants, find drugs and stolen weapons. LAPD guy had similar dealings in other areas. But of course the TSA people were vetted and handle our safety.

When road tripping, I always make sure have a fuel emergency fund available on hand in cash. Wherever the furthest place i'm planning to go, I calculate how much fuel i'll need to get back, and ensure I have enough cash to do so just in case.
