What is the consensus barrel profile that will get us po' non-Samson Foundation owners to "best" balance?

I have a Centurion with full brass internal weights + L3i Dina and currently run a Benchmark MTU+ 28inch, but feel I can't load into my Schmedium without it feeling a tad nose heavy and wanting to dip down. Looking for a better NPA.

Looking at CRB and want to hear 26 vs 28 and CRB comp vs 1.25 straight (strictly as it relates to balance for PRS and positional)

Also, what's the consensus for number of extra impacts I'll get if I cerakote? :)

I personnaly run 1.25" straight barrels at 26" on my Centurions and haven the balance point right about 4.5" in front of Magwell with the help of the brass weights. Next rebarrel I am leaning towards 28" tubes and worst case I can take a few brass weights out of the fore-end if needed. With my setup I was not able to get the balance far enough forward with something like a proof comp contour.

My setup is probably the same general weight (w/o barrel) as yours. I’ve got tungsten instead of brass, which is about 2lb heavier but I don’t have the Dina brass rail. I prefer 26” instead of 28” and have been running M24 barrels for the last few go arounds. Balance is just about right, any more barrel weight and it might be nose heavy.

My vote would be 26” and go with the standard CRB contour instead of 1.25 straight.

Black cerakote is dead sexy, but only if you have a black muzzle brake . :)

What's the significance of balancing 4.5 in in front of the magwell and does it depend on support bag? For example AG Schmedium vs. OG vs. Wiebad Tater Tot?

    FWIW. I use the Schmedium.
Your not shoving your magazine into the bag, gives you some wiggle room
I have a Centurion just waiting on the gunsmith for the barreled action

I have a centurion with the full brass insert kit and regular old foundation rail. 26” CRB MTU+. I find it to be not quite nose heavy enough. Going to CRB comp on the next round for a little more meat out front. One of the things I really like about the Samson is that the weight is farther forward.

The number is irrelevant. It should balance on the center of your bag or slighty ahead of that point WITH THE MAG JAMMED INTO THE BAG. Slide the gun into the bag with the muzzle slightly high, rock the muzzle down and watch the corner between the mag and the rail fill with bag material. That’s what you want. The balance point should be slightly ahead of where that middle of your bag is. The mag in the bag is a critical part of the stability. The balance point is a matter of how big your bag is and what feels good to you under recoil.

I currently have two centurions...One is a 28" CRB 1.25" and the other is 26" proof comp. The 28" is pretty front biased almost too much and the the 26" feels pretty rear biased. I only have the internal weights and the brass arca rail on both. Id probably go 28 CRB comp contour the level it out on both. That being said i shoot ace brakes, if your gonna hang one of those 12oz chads off the front id probably do something else. I use wiebad tator tot 90% of the time.

Just got the Samson in yesterday, it really only added about 2lbs over what I was using before but just preliminary “finger fucking” of the stock I really like the checkering and thumb cuts on stock. Balance point is damn near the same as well. I have not taken any weights out. Just my $0.02

It seems like all the weight of the Samson is in the 3 pound brass full ARCA rail and the rear weights (which seemed odd because the Centurion already seems butt heavy, but maybe there's a reason for it). If I don't run the ARCA full, then does the weight come out to about the same as a non-Samson + full brass inserts?

The checkering and thumb shelf are welcome additions.

There is brass in the nose of the fore-end like the honey combs of the old style, the brass arca doe fill in the inlet for the anshutz rail, and it does have brass under comb. Bushman i think only uses a small piece of arca in the front and he doesnt seem to have balance issues. I believe it would come out around the same, but you would have to order the anshutz rail and hardware seperately.
