wow. most of my favs got picked. i would add Clapton/Cream's Spoonful from live at Leeds and Jeff Beck doing big block live with Tal Wilkenfeld on base.
there is,in truth,no best just many greats.
would add,non rock,Roy Clark doing Malaguena and BB King & The VEntures doing most anything. think the Beach Boys did about the best Misirlou around.

Satriani . Long story short . Had an opportunity to audition as a bass player for Satch . My lack of confidence made me duck out .
Guy named Kelly James from the Dead end kids . Guy was homeless , mentally cooked from drugs . I mean like fucken damaged . We ran in that Philly circle . Would pick him up and feed him now and then , take him to a gig . Put a guitar in this guy's hand and magic happened . This guy and that band were playing in the 70's . First guy to send a guitar around his neck .
Influenced a lot of Easter Coast band like KIX .
Slow Hand is corner stone .
Surprised no one mentioned Dicky Betts .
Brian May is incredibly under appreciated .
Eddy Van Halen .
So many more I can't remember the names . The faces and gigs are still vivid .

Ritchie Kitzen . Sad that the guy's ego and bad choices got in the way of his art . Truly gifted .
David Gilmore is gifted and an egomaniacal narcissistic fuckin Dbag . Surprised he got as far as he did being such a difficult , contrary , argumentative twat .

I saw him play one of his last Christmas shows. It was awesome and he invited people to come up and dance below the stage. 40's style dancers were entertaining those walking in to the theatre.A true Badass. I understand he is suffering from an incurable disease and is unable to play. Seeing him live is on my bucket list.
Fucking LOVE it. Saw him in concert at Wolf Trap twice....just a bit before the 2011 performance you posted....he was OUTSTANDING.
Also saw him on tour with John McLaughlin but dear lord...that was so long ago it was prehistoric times. It was my least favorite....I was never a McLaughlin fan and he seemed to have infected Santana. lol
But I don't actually remember seeing him giving the percussion guys a long solo like in the vid you posted....loved that. Truly.

Monster player, but I’d pick the live solo on “Do You Feel Like We Do” as my favorite. It is worthy of “iconic” status.

I have always liked Jerry Reed's playing and his solos and fills are well-planned. Programmatic is the term for music that helps to tell the story.
Disagree there is a best, SRV. Electric with huge fat railroad tracks for strings to a 12 string acoustic, you can find him playing all styles and well. Best across the board. Now there can be better in a specific area, but they will fall far short outside of their specific field. Vanhalen foe example. Take the tapping away and where are you.
I look at it like Roy Clark, sure others are better than he is with a specific thing, but hand Jimmy Page a violin and he would not know what to do. (yes I know) I will say he was the best string instrument player. Same line of thinking goes with SRV.

Another great that is getting better currently is Matteo Mancuso ... been keeping Amy eye on him ... incredible guitarist, but not with the right band that will get him more notoriety ... Truly talented.

Eddy Van Halens dad performed with this guy, I think he was a heavy influence on him. He never said that he invented the string tap, he just ran with it.

Whatever you say, Brother. I'm not going to argue against Stevie. As I said, he is tied with my favorite of all time with George Lynch, but I'll never say anyone is the Best. I've been playing for 46 years now, and one thing I've learned is that there will always be someone who comes along and stands the world on its ear. "Best" is always an opinion, and is based on what we want/expect to hear, but that's different for many people.
In my opinion, Stevie's unique, "best" attribute is making the listener feel the emotion and even pain involved in doing what he did. If you play things the way he did, you WILL experience some pain. His guitar tech Rene' Martinez talks about him ripping his finger calluses off during performances, and having to super glue them back on so he could continue. He could make you FEEL that pain musically (it's the Blues, after all). He could say more with a single note than many listed hear could say with a hundred. Like the Challenger disaster, and 9/11, I remember exactly where I was when I heard he died in a helicopter crash (in my truck, on the radio, at school in Auburn).
Just thought of another, perhaps surprising entry...Gary Richrath of REO Speedwagon. Sure, a cheesy band, but he had a knack for some nice solos. Take it On the Run and Roll With the Changes come to mind.
He is over 70 years old now but looks to be still going out on the road playing strong, He is a really unique guitar talent that for sure has carved-out a place for himself among a thousand other hardcore guitar talents. I going to pretty much date myself here, but I first seen him late 70's., We heard about this guy, and there was a little buzz about him and playing mimicking Hendrix. drove in with a small group of friends to little theater called Paramount in Portland. Went in and that fucker just totally, and i mean totally blew everyone away there. He opened by rolling out onstage under a thick fog. He pops-up threw the fog, was in full makeup, Negro skin color, full Afro hair, and Hendrix stage clothing. You would swear to god it was Hendrix come to life and jamming. Just was ripping it up perfectly hammering out all Hendrix's tunes, even playing with his teeth, behind his back, never missing a lick.

thought of mostly as a more vocal group-Grace being the lead without doubt. they did have some very talented instrumentalists as well. the long intro by a very under rated Craig Chaquico is an example. grace is of course the very greatest of this era. 50 yo recording so not up to modern state of the art but you get the idea.
Here's someone from The Shadows that few will remember. He got a sound from the guitar that was unique. In this video, I believe he's using an Echos From the Past echo machine, programmed to sound like the Meazzi tape based machine he originally used. It's close, but not exact.

Craig Chaquico wasn’t very old to be playing lead ….Grace had a strong voice.
Poor guy had that ‘57 and also a ‘59 (!!) LP stolen from him along with his Fender amps. Replaced eventually with Carvin gear via a sponsorship. I would find that a hard pill to swallow.
Jorma Kaukonen is an excellent blues guitrarist, and Spencer Dryden is an accomplished drummer who you never hear about.
I lived in SF in 1970-71, and saw the Airplane at Fillmore West and Winterland. Spacey Gracy was the main attraction, but I took particular notice of Jorma.
Been waiting for someone to post that. Definitely belongs in this discussion.
I’m not sure if Gary Moore has been mentioned, but Still Got the Blues is another song that is continually linked lead solos. Very soulful, and it talks to me.
