I have never reloaded at all but want to start somewhat soon, at least start buying some of the required items. I'll most likely buy some of the bigger expense items over a few months.

I've noticed the Area 419 press is sold out on their website. Is this pretty normal or are there any rumors they are about to update it? I'm eligible for the veteran discount so prefer to order it from them unless there are better alternatives. I know there are cheaper alternatives but I've pretty much decided on the Area 419 press.

Another question, is there a good website to order some the supplies such as powder? I want to start buying some of the items soon. I'm in Texas, near Houston, if that matters.

Thanks, maybe I could have reworded it better. Area 419's website is sold out so I was asking if there are other options that are just as good (as in giving a veteran discount) since Area 419 does.

Looks like Brownell's is active duty only or it appears that way from their website. I'll call Optics Planet as I don't see Area 419 on their list of manufacturer discounts.

    OP,

I forget to answer your query on powder. Currently there is no one place I can recommend for powder or primers. They are where you can find them.

But I bought powder & primers in the last few years from:

Gun Broker ( but beware of scammer's)
    Direct from Hodgdon
    Powder Valley
    Graph & Son's

Look for sellers that advertise no Haz Mat fees occasionally , like Natchez Shooter Supply, Brownells and Midway.

For brass I use Starline quite a bit, and Gun Broker for once fired Lake City .223/5.56.

Lapua, Alpha and Peterson Brass are all quite good and quite pricey. And those 3 are almost de rigueur for developing quality long distance loads.

For me I'm old, and no longer formally compete, so Starline Brass (buy direct from them) is my go to source for my "quality loads". But it's a low bar.....

I know Brownells offers a Military discount
The OP acknowledged that Brownell's offers an ACTIVE MIL discount but not veteran which is what he's looking for.

@C130 - call up 419 on Monday and see if they have a projected in-stock date or if they will take a back order or run a wait list. Since you haven't reloaded, don't have squat to reload with, it sort of seems like you have a bit of time to resolve the press availability.

Also, if you choose a turret option a field will pop up to let you enter your email addy and get a notification when its back in stock.

    Cheers

    Hello Baron,

Brownells is pleased to offer special pricing to active law enforcement, military personnel and veterans directly through our website. Individuals currently employed as sworn agents and officers of local, state, and federal entities, all branches of the military, and professional department gunsmiths and armorers may create an account for individual purchases.

It sure looks like Brownells offers veterans a discount.

Thanks, I'm definitely not in a rush since I basically have nothing as far as reloading supplies. I did sign up for the in stock notifications at Area 419.

I'll go back and check Brownell's again. What I read earlier only stated Active Duty but maybe I missed something. I've ordered from so many places over the years and can't keep up with all the different ways businesses do the discounts.

Below is what I read but that might be a different program.

Owning a 419 Zero I would recommend buying a Redding T-7 instead. I have both and unless you have a very healthy budget you could invest the difference on other components.

If budget is not an issue then go for it, they both make great ammo.

Pretty sure 419 is dropping a new version of the zero at the end of this week. Scheels likes to put things out a tad early sometimes

As others have said, maybe consider a different press. I own one and like it a lot but unless you have all of the other high end equipment
(Henderson trimmer, 2X powder dispensers that use a lab grade scale, SAC/A419 dies, etc.) your money will be MUCH better spent elsewhere.

Personally I don't care for the T7 and the slop in it but it makes great ammo. The Forster CoAx was widely known to be one of the best presses out there before the zero was a thing. Even the SAC Nexus saves you some change. A PRS world champion loads his ammo on a Lee press. There's SO much other things to drop coin on.

Appreciate the information. I thought they might be releasing a new Zero. I'll look at other options also. I don't like wasting money but do like to get nice stuff at the start so I don't want to upgrade a few months later.

Is the Henderson trimmer better that the Giraud or more personal preference? I'm trying to figure out the top options in what all I need. I've been reading a lot of the older threads trying to figure it all out. I definitely want a very good powder dispenser also.
