I’m in the US. It’s getting harder to find decent .408 projectiles. No but any bullets I've seen with those super pointy tips have a large BC variation.
Where are you located? if you're in the US I don't see the need to import bullets from Europe, if you are over in Europe trying to find something closer to home makes sense.
Seriously? https://cuttingedgebullets.com/coll...ding&filter.p.m.customAttributes.caliber=.408I’m in the US. It’s getting harder to find decent .408 projectiles.
Yes
So your asking about a bullet that has been on the market for 20 plus years the bullet is a design from gs custom that was sold to cheytac usa then made by lost river ballistics. Also made by pacific tool and gage and still can be made by pacific tool . It's a very accurate bullet and very easy to load to be accurate. Bc numbers are decentAnyone ever try Solid Solutions Designs 419 grain .408 bullet? If so how did they perform?
So this is the exact same bullet as the older pacific tool projectile? So your asking about a bullet that has been on the market for 20 plus years the bullet is a design from gs custom that was sold to cheytac usa then made by lost river ballistics. It does suffer a little into transition and sub sonic . I would try tipping the bullet it may solve the problem . It my be a viable option for
408. Bullet.
Please note i dont think thid bullet is not made by solid solutions Just contact Dave kiff he can make as many as you want. This is the cheytac usa design gs customs design back when cheytac was renting space from ptg the programs were on Dave's star swiss mechines and omni turn mechiens. So your asking about a bullet that has been on the market for 20 plus years the bullet is a design from gs custom that was sold to cheytac usa then made by lost river ballistics. The 425 Laser and the 415 MTAC were tried and the results were nowhere near as good as the older HSM/IQ metals Urban Copper, Lehigh, or RMB (which I’m about to run out of). My guns both have a 1:13 twist.232 - you said, "It’s getting harder to find decent .408 projectiles." And that CEB's didn't work for you. Which CEB's didn't work for you - Laser, MTAC, or MTH? Did your twist match what they recommend?
No Gerard is not making bullets any longer. There were about 5 different companies making the same basic bullet all are a copy of the orig design by cheytac that was orig. Designed by Gerard from gs for cheytac this bullet from solid solutions is basicly the exact same bullet. This bullet was designed for super sonic flight and does well but the bc numbers quoted are just a tad to high.232 - you said, "It’s getting harder to find decent .408 projectiles." Yes, its been a long time since the Lehigh Defense's bullets have been available, beyond one .50 cal offering (in copper). Last April they advised, in response to my inquory about re-introducing ELR bullets, "all these ERL (sic) bullet that you are speaking of were built from brass and we no longer build bullet out of brass we are 100% copper , we have a list of old brass bullet that we do plan on looking at bringing back but it will be out of copper. " Possibly worth giving them a call.
While the photo in SSD's PDF (https://www.solidsolutiondesigns.co...ojectile-Information-SSD-419-grain-Empire.pdf) is a rendering, neither it nor the actual pic on their sell page (https://www.solidsolutiondesigns.com/product/408-419-gr-empire/) match the GSC-original design (https://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2011/01/shot-show-report-gs-custom-bullets-from-south-africa/). [Don't know whether Gerard is still producing in SA - his product lines were primarily for African big game hunting. The deal with CT did not go well.] BTW, I had , and have long ago sold off, a bunch of GSC's .50s - black, not copper-color ones. Never got to the point of using them.
The SSD offering looks more like the Clearwater Swiss Precision 419/.408 product (https://image.jimcdn.com/app/cms/im...3cee395abbd5e151/version/1397674531/image.jpg)
In any case, there are multiple .408 offerings available in the 415 - 425 range (and most of the non-US suppliers have a few resellers in the US or will ship to the US). Buy a couple boxes of all that look interesting and see if your rifle likes them. Proof of the pudding... Options - see https://elr-resources.com/ELR Bullets Matrix 03292025.xls
The 419 being a .408, I had use for it.The 425 Laser and the 415 MTAC were tried and the results were nowhere near as good as the older HSM/IQ metals Urban Copper, Lehigh, or RMB (which I’m about to run out of). My guns both have a 1:13 twist.
Did you use the Pacific Tool & Gauge 419 projectile ever?
