Gunsmith for 1911 work?

I have a couple of 70 series pistols that need some work (barrel fitting / fit slide stop, mag catch / RMS cut on an existing BoMar) and a second that just needs an RMS cut (Novak).

Nighthawk says 6 months and $1500 for the first one (I supply the barrel). $450 for the second slide cut; but in both cases they only want to cold blue unless they can refinish the whole slide.

Anyone have any recommendations for someone that is going to do at least as well as Nighthawk and be faster?

Anyone have a recommendation for someone to simply cut the second slide? I have seen DSC mentioned here and there - any other recommendations?

Jim Milks was the gunsmith at EGW for many years before setting up his own shop, Innovative Custom Guns. He's done excellent work for me on Browning Hi Powers and 1911s and used to have very reasonable turn around times. I don't know if he's still working or retired now but it might be worth a phone call.

Buddy had some work done by Valor Precision and he did really nice work. Veteran 2112 so he knows his shit.

When the dust settles you will have been better off just buying the gun set up like you want and keeping or selling yours. Franken 1911’s sell for pennies.

Good does not equal fast in the custom 1911 world. Frequently the good ones are all booked up, and you're waiting into the years to get your stuff back.

The turnaround time quoted by Nighthawk doesn't sound bad to me, and the pricing seems comparably reasonable (if you could call it that). Bonus to your resale if you keep your work order, but as stated above a resale of someone's custom 1911 is usually done at a fairly significant loss.

6month for NH isn’t bad at all. I’ve got guns that have been at smiths for 2+ years.

Valor Precision has been great with all my builds and super quick.

Not to get too nerdy, but if you want a barrel fit...it would help to know where you stand on what kind of fit standards you're up to.
Marvel spec fitting? 1950's commercial standards (what pretty much all the semi-customs do)? Don't care?
