NYC and those pesky helicopters

I can't remember... what's that humorous definition of helicopters?

Something like... "A loose assortment of parts all flying together."

I was also told they're fairly difficult to fly... Something like trying to balance a ball on a moving stick.

10,000 parts moving in unison until you loose one or one fails! I was told that about 40 years ago.

So from what I have “gleaned” from purported experts and the videos, it seems likely the transmission suddenly seized.

That spun the aircraft violently causing the tail to snap off due to the air resistance of the tail fin.

Momentum meeting resistance, the rotors ripped the transmission from the aircraft.

This is my completely uneducated guess at this point. Smarter minds than me will no doubt punch holes in my theory.

Sounds like a viable theory, and I can't imagine what the passengers felt while inside the aircraft if that DID happen as such.

If so, the next round of guesses would be "what caused the transmission to seize"?

Good question. The tour company has been shut down by the FAA after senior management resigned.

Purportedly these tours are allow to operate under some “loopholes” that are not as strict as in other commercial operations.

This would be my guess. Didn’t we read somewhere above in the thread that the helicopter had been serviced for transmission issues just a few weeks ago?

It will be interesting What it turns out to be but I’m with you on this one.
