Magpul Poly Rail- Good enough for a bipod?

So Im setting up my first rifle with a true chassis, a KRG Xray with the spigot. Included with the chassis they send a couple little magpul poly rail sections and I was curious is they were good enough to stand up to the abuse of a bipod or if thats a fools errand and a metal rail would be required.

Traditionally Ive run normal harris on the sling swivel, and likely will again just to keep everything the same but Ive been intrigued with a quick disconnect and the overly large tension knob (or possibly an atlas but that is a discussion for another time and place).

Are the poly rails tough enough? Just holding them in my hands I cant get them to flex but then again I myself refuse to flex so Im not exactly the final say in strength lol.

I mean....you can get the magpul steel rail sections for like $15....

The poly rail is probably great for lights and grips and such....but for piece of mind, ide use steel

Yeah but if I go down that road by equal token I can just use a normal harris I already have and skip the rail entirely while saving 15 bucks plus 2-300 on a bipod.
Was just curious on this slower than hell day at work if anyone had tried it with success. Hoping for a pleasant surprise.

Another question would be whether the larue mount has the same sharp corners as their scope mounts do which cut into scope rails or it it were a less sharp design here?

I have the Magpul rail mount on the bottom of a magpul hunter stock with a Harris bipod and ADM QD on it. I have yet to break it or notice any deficiency with it when loading my bipod. I'm 6' and 260 and load the shit out of that thing to the point the Harris legs flex slightly and it hasn't given up yet. I don't run any PRS so I can't give you any feedback for using it as a stop off a barricade. Best advice is to just mount it up, abuse the shit out of it during a practice to see if it is going to be sufficient for you needs. I was worried about the M-lok screw system digging into the magpul stock and shearing off a piece of the mounting slot would be the weak link but have had no issues yet. That doesn't sound like it will be the case with you XRAY. Hope the feedback helps. I've only been using it for about 6 months so can't give you a long term durability report.

That's honestly the answer I was hoping for and you've properly piqued my curiousity as to whether I can get away with it... maybe I'll go ahead and try to prove the world wrong.

How do you you like the adm harris mount? I like everything about the larue besides the name on it so I'm looking for other avenues.

If you are too careless, you might shave some plastic off.. but unless your slamming it around in sub-0 temps, I can't see it failing to hold a bipod. I have had one for the bipod on my AR for 4 years now and it never let me down as a truck/tractor gun in NoDak.

I had an Xray and went through the same thing, Yes the poly will work, but you know when the poly will fail. Probably when you are hours away from anywhere, lining up for the money shot, NPA is perfect, you dig in with the perfect bipod load, deep breath, exhale...... bump bump...bump bump.... SNAP. muzzle in the dirt.

KRG sells an aluminum rail but its $32

I have been using the poly rails on my manners T4, mcree and whiskey3. I have a few atlas bipods and have had the bipods on and off countless times with no issues. I don't do PRS or try to abuse equipment, but im not gentle either. They have held up fine.

Glock, m&p frames are poly, Glock mags are poly, Magpul AR mags are poly and they don't break for the hell of it. The way they mount up, the rails aren't going to twist and bend, which I would think that is how it would break. I highly doubt a section of rail is going to "just chip off". You'd really have to smack it on something to do that. If you did mar it enough that the QD clamp won't go on, bust out a pocket knife and clean up the edge like you are whittling wood.

I had reservations a few years ago when I started using the poly rails. I was in a pinch and needed a rail and a LGS only had the Magpul rail I needed. So I bought it because I needed it and that's all I use now.

I really like the ADM QD mount. Glad I picked it up here in the accessories sub forum. It is nice being able to QD my bipod for travel/range bag/cleaning. It locks up tight with no play so I have no complaints about it. I have never handled/utilized a Larue QD so I can't give you a comparison between the two. ADM makes solid, quality components and I have never had any issue with their recon mounts or their Harris bipod disconnect mount.

*edit* I will say that between the ADM mount and my Harris bipod if I were to swing my rifle like an axe and bust something with it I would put money on the Harris breaking before that ADM QD. Its a stout little bastard. Granted if I did that I bet that's when I would see that MAGPUL rail section pull thru and break the M-LOK slot of my forend and come thru perfectly reusable.

I have LaRue scope mounts and ADM for my harris adapter. When I went to purchase my Atlas, I went straight for the ADM. Nothing wrong with LaRue at all, as they return to zero perfectly for me. I just prefer the ADM setup.

I've been using the Magpul rail on the bottom of my MDT Tac-21 Chassis for about a year now with an Atlas PSR w/ADM mount. It's on and off with every trip to the range (2X per week) and shows absolutely no signs of wear or "shaving".

Polymers today are a far cry from the "Plastics" of old. They're engineered to be durable and temperature resistant. Think of the number of Glocks out there that are carried by police/citizens in near Arctic conditions as well as in the tropics. Haven't heard of one breaking due to cold or "melting" because they were hot.

I thought of looking for a steel or aluminum rail but after a year of use (holding up the front of a 17# rifle for a couple thousand rounds I wouldn't worry.
