Lets get the obvious basics out of they way. Don't copy anyone load. Work up your own and monitor for pressure.

There is no Load Data I can find of the 88 ELDM with H4895 in the .223. Anyone using this combo? What velocity? Barrel length? Charge?

Thanks.

I currently am testing varget and H4895 for these 88s, I went off the Hodgdon website and going off the 90gr SMK
I’m actually going out to test finally tomorrow, I can update you on what I find works for me

I did some basic ladder testing with both H4895 and Varget. The velocity was decent, but not good enough to overcome using 75 ELD at a faster node. Showed good accuracy potential.

Hey any luck slinging 80ELDs with CFE223? Going to do some loading when I get off
Had crazy pressure spikes with H4895 in lake city brass and was piercing primers

It's possible but doesn't seem conducive to accuracy. Those 88s seem to like being at or just over 2800, up around 2900 my accuracy was meh.
I found the right seating depth and they shoot very accurate out to range too. But I get what your saying. Sometimes going faster isn’t better. I just picked up a bunch of 80ELDs and kicking myself not getting 88s lol

Any further updates on the 88’s?

So I just got don’t shooting today took the 88’s out to 1200 yards 1st round hit at all targets from 500 - 1200 yards in 100 yard increments. However we had good weather conditions. Running them at 2837 FPS. 26” barrel

what SD and ES are you consistently getting?

223 wylde chamber, mullerworks 7.5 twist 24”. 23.6g of varget, lc18 brass. Avg 2806 FPS. Group at 620 yesterday, 3-5mph wind

do you think one needs a wild chamber or match chamber?
I didn’t want to fuck around trying to get the perfect chamber, tried that with an ackley and it was a pita. This will shoot pretty much anything and everything well. The 88eld was an afterthought. This barrel is for training/fun. These charges are thrown with a cheap lee thrower. If you end up putting as much work into the loads as you do a br/dasher what’s the point?

*223 ackley* rounds

24.1 h4895 is money for mine too. Varget was also good.

You must have a really long OAL to fit 25.4gr of Varget behind an 88. I crunch kernals at 2.300" with a 77SMK and 25.25gr Varget in a SAAMI .223 Rem chamber.

I shot it at one last weekend. Lol Pretty much runs with the baby 6’s. A tenth off a 6 creed running mediumish It would get out ran eventually but the only issue was spotting the impacts at distance snd it didn’t have enough ass to spin the spinner. Other than that you aren’t wrong, it kicked ass.

Seems mighty stout to me.
I went up over 28 with no pressure signs. But the case was so full I couldn’t compress the powder enough to get the bullet to fit in the mag. Hodgdon has 25.7 listed as max for a 90gr at saami length. I’m loaded significantly longer than that and a slightly lighter bullet. I’ve ran several thousand rounds of this load with no issue, averaging 2812 FPS. Obviously work up as I did all the way from published data but in my gun this load is excellent.
