my little brother (12) says he wants to learn how to shoot in precision comps. he is not new to shooting. he has been hunting with a 7mm-08 since he was 9. he wants to start out and learn with his 22lr. its a cz 452 lux model. it currently has a bushnell 1x4 on it. i was thinking that he should get something like a falcon menace 4.5-18 so that he can learn with it and move it to a different gun later. do you guys think this would be a good idea?

Re: scope application question

Falcon Menace in 4-14 or 4.5-18 would be good choices, get him a FFP and mil/mil scope. If he practices and learns that system well for a few years he'll be leaps and bounds above most other shooters.

Oh, man. I dont know anything about the falcon menace scopes, but when someone mentions the words rimfire and precision in the same paragraph, it strikes a nerve.

What do you mean by "precision"? If youre talking about hitting X's at 50 yards and beyond, you're gonna want something with more precise turrets. Mils are fine for just shooting at MOA size targets, but if he's gonna be shooting at very small stuff, like trying to hit an X smaller than a fly, something with 1/8 MOA clicks can come in handy for a precise zero.

Why are you digging up threads from 15+ years ago... This is the 2nd one I've seen today.
