No doubt you could find as many pictures of Milley with less ribbons as you can Eisenhower with more. A super quick google search pulled up several pics of Eisenhower with three full rows. Eisenhower was also commissioned a bare 2 years before WWII- like many/most of the US officer core, he was young.

Eisenhower graduated West Point Pre WWI and was a staff officer.

He layed out the Lincoln Highway.

    Your info is wrong.

If I elect for gender reassignment surgery I would contact Milley , Eisenhower would tell me what the fuck is your major malfunction.
If Ike had done nothing else, creating the interstate highway system made him a good president. Now if senile Joe would just follow through on his promise to improve the infrastructure, we might save them because their damn sure falling apart and over taxed.

Joe doesn't know what infrastructure is since they told him its human infrastructure. 2009 then VP Biden talking about a rail tunnel between NJ and NY thought it was a tunnel for cars. Biden has been the idiot savant of American from day one.

    "idiot" yes, absolutely.

"savant" no. Not even close to being a savant. Them folks deserve respect and regard, not insults.

Early in his career, 1920 time period, Eisenhower was given the task of determining how useful the nations roadways would be for the movement of troops.

He took a caravan from New York to California on a route that would become the Lincoln Highway.

I think that and his experience with the German, and American, use of the Autobahn gave him the ideas for our Interstate system.

Edit/Add - Some research......better facts than my memory.

You are correct. Commissioned 2 years before WWi. But, only promoted to Lt Col in 1941. And, at a scant ~50 in 1940, I maintain that he was “young.” There are plenty of books about the subject that lay out the general “youth” amd lack of experience of the entire office corps of the US during WWII- all the way from the lieutenants in the field to the general staff running the war.

    Wrong.

Rank mattered shit in the 1920s/1930s Army as far as denoting your experience.

Promotions for anyone were hard to come by.

Eisenhower was a Bvt Lt Col in 1920. Remarkable for 6 years out of WP, reflective of the expansion for WWI. He returned to permanent rank as the mil contracted.

The 1930s were particularly "austere" for our tiny military. Probably had about 100K soldiers and less than 20K Marines. Officers spent years in rank. It wasnt like "two boards and you are out". They had to be dedicated to their careers because it could mean 10 years in Oklahoma as a 1st Lt at a Cavalry outpost eating dust.

Duty in the Far East was sought because it meant their meagre wages went further and who wouldnt prefer the tropics to Oklahoma?

Ike spent almost his entire career in Staff positions and for the world it was fortunate that one of his earliest acquaintances was Patton. Had that relationship not existed someone other than Ike might have fired him...Ikes classmate Bradley would have.

Ike was not hiding in Staff though. He wanted more active roles it just happened his brains and ability marked him to plan, co-ordinate and politic rather than be at the front.

Our WWII mil was built around a very hard, relatively small, core of professionals. Two Marine Brigades basically provided enough experience for 6 Divisions.

These flinty fucks had the experience to survive and pass their knowledge on to the civilians that filled the ranks. Those civilians that listened and were lucky lived and won the war because of them.

Edit/add - Social Security age was set at 62 with the idea you would die before collecting. At age 50 Ike was not a boot.
