    So talking to my buddy in Houma Louisiana looking like ground zero.

    Was still at work Friday midday but said his preps were in place and in usual fashion riding it out.

    Well hit 75 mph and turned hurricane allready.

    On a lighter note.
    We were discussing my birthday supper this evening with my son to host. He asked what I wanted and I said shrimp since it was on sale and cheaper than beef at the moment.

    My loving wife said it was due to the storm blowing them in closer to the beach.

    Looks like things are going to get a little western down there. I'll be headed down to red stick tomorrow to see what's going on. Pretty logical, most people leaving and I am headed into it. Gotta keep the railroad running, or get it back up ASAP afterwards. Hope everybody is prepared!

    Late nite update looks bad for Houma, Grey and Schriever La.
    Don't think anyone expected this strong of a storm.

    A lot of smaller towns like Dulack and Cocodri are screwed bad as they are barely dry at all on a high tide.

    I can see boats on the Intercoastal from my friends house in Houma .

    Lafourche and Terrebonne Parrish are both now under mandatory evacuation orders .

    I hope they will get out but they normally stay, cat 3 maybe 4 sounds bad this time.

    It certainly appears that SE La. is gonna get hammered! BR may see a pretty powerful storm. My kids, grandkids, and great grandkids all live just north of BR. They may witness one of the most powerful storms to give BR a direct hit in many years. I remember Betsy quite well, even though I was fairly young at the time!

    Thoughts and Prayers are with all in the region......they’ve had much more than their share of storms in recent years! memtb

    Just talked to the Houma crew.
    As normal they are staying.

    What gets me is the inability of the damn governor to initiate contra flow to get people out that want to evac.

    Can not one single facet of government ever get things done?

    The Cajun navy will be buisy as hell soon.

    The electric company that I retired from is probably sending people down there. Probably be there when the storm hits. Makes perfect sense...............

    I spent about 30 days down there when Katrina hit. Kinds mis it and kinda don't!

    It sounds like you guys that are there are prepared. Wishing you the best.

    Unfortunate that it will make land fall at dusk and beat the shit out of Louisiana during the dark of night. I hate it when you can hear your house being torn apart one board at a time.... But, there is that experience of walking out into the eye at 2 am and see the moon and stars before it passes and the wind is worse on the back side...

    When we first moved to South Louisiana from MS and heard Cajun French and the Parrish and town names on TV, my daughter said “we don’t live in America anymore.”
    We are about 20 miles north of Baton Rouge - I just got all the outdoor furniture moved where it won’t blow around, will change the generator oil tomorrow and finish securing items. I keep Gas cans full starting mid summer and run the generator every month or two in the summer. Gas doesn’t go bad since the lawnmower and UTV use it.
    we drove back from the daughters house in Tampa last night to avoid evacuation traffic - got home a 2am. The traffic going towards Alabama from New Orleans on I 10 at midnight was impressive!
    We live in a neighborhood with old pecan trees so it could be bad. But now that the parish sheriff lives on our street we tend to get power back quicker.
    if you have ever been to the LA coast you can appreciate how bad this can be.

    I was in NO after Katrina... up in the Garden District. Then helping out USBP and some other federales with prisoners. It was a shitshow.... and it was totally engineered by democrats to offer them a way to attack George Bush and destroy the 2006 elections... And, of course, let's add to that Schumer's attack on mortgages that destroyed the economy in fall 2008 to put in Commie Obama.

    Yeah... never let a crisis go to waste.

    PS. Generators, freezers full of Omaha Steaks and no ROE to keep shitwads out of the 'rich' neighborhoods... was kind of fun. When SHTF a bunch of us went off to support CBP and others who were holding federal prisoners. Pro Tip, you can control a lot of prisoners sitting on a bridge really easy if you drop in a few cases of beer... and let them each have a couple of Cervesa's and lots of water and burritos and Doritos... and let them know that they will just be fine if they comply. And will be gator shit if they don't. Because... noone was keeping track of their asses. Disappear was easy.

    PS. Most disgusting thing in Katrina was NOPD scumbags who were staying in downtown (Hilton?) I think... and hit a couple of jewelers and looted Rolex's, jewels, gold, etc. during the height of the storm. Then piled all the loot into their rooms to wait out the storms.

    CBP hit their asses. While some folks covered for CBP. Which caught the 'police' looting the high end stores.

    I don't think any got convicted. But there were hotel rooms with NOPD scumbags and 300 Rolex's and boxes in them.

    I know your area well. Just talked to my son who lives in St Francisville.. He is on his way to work tonight at EXXON... He said traffic going north and west on the Interstates was gridlocked.... I remember those years... LOL

    Yeah @THEIS looks like it’s turning right towards us. Stay safe brother. Holler if you need something. Northshore was a freaking wreck after Katrina. Lost 150+ mature oak trees in my yard alone. Being such a rural area, our damage and disruption comes primarily from down trees. We got the tractors, skid steer and chainsaws fueled up…waiting. This will be my kids first big storm, should be interesting. Hopefully not too interesting though. Prayers for all in the area.

    Just spent an hour on the phone with my good friend in Houma.
    his wife and kids are in Houston, he is at home.
    he was raised there and is well prepared. And still a tad nervous.

    My old GF aunt is an old nun living in Abita Springs.
    she has many friends around, but no kin who can actually do anything.

    Making landfall just after sunrise is the lowest temperature of the day, and only mid-tide levels I guess is a little good news. City of NO surge estimated 8-12ft and another 1ft of rain.

    I'm 4 hrs from La. coast line ,lots of rain and possible tornadoes predicted here.Looks like today will be my last day combining for a while . Need the down time to fix stuff. I'm not looking forward to having to get downed corn up off the ground after this blows through. I'm glad the above is all I have to be concerned about compared to the people to the south of me. Gonna be ruff for a lot of folks. Possible upgrade to Cat. 5 ,haven't heard weather the last hour, may be a 5 now.

    If the government had only time to think of a solution since 2005.........


    We are Bangladesh by all metrics.........

    Im guessing we are going to see some smart individuals with means that invested and thier houses are going to be little islands of dry protected by some private entity invention that though costly.....will work better as an extra insurance policy and at probably just over the cost of a rider to pay you for losses.

    I have never seen what appears to be so many unprepared people, lol....well; I have but they were in 3rd world countries.
    The Dollar store across from the shop was so busy you would have thought it was black friday sale or some shit...
    THIS morning people were waiting in the parking lot 2 hours before it opened...

    Damn, you have some nice trees out in the front of your property, hope you all do not loose too many of them!!

    The "news" blabbing like a Chatty Kathy pulling her own string is completely fucking maddening.
    Give us the fucking news. Period.
    We can even read radar a little bit.
    Standing in ankle deep water reporting "live on the scene" has become overbearing.
    You aren't helping "save people " in fact quite the opposite.

    We know its gonna be bad....or not. We don't need a weatherman in a slicker and an umbrella to tell us that.

    My prayers are with Louisianans today.

    Rain wind starting up, outer band just hitting

    Still had power.

    The weather station feed from the Houma airport has been offline since midnite.
    NWS report was 150mph winds sustained at 11AM just offshore.

    In natural disasters I rely on a Hand Held Ham Radio that also scans public safety channels, much better up to date information than the talking heads on TV and Radio. Prayers for Louisiana.

    6:30 pm Houma still has 80 mph winds. Eye passed to the east side on the radar I saw. Not sure how thick the eyewall strenght winds were. I did see 100 reported there.
    Anything east of there got full bore.

    Won't bother trying to contact anyone today (sucks).

    Our president was on "trying" to read a one paragraph script. Geeze
