Maximum Length of a Spin Stabilized Projectile by Beat Kneubuehl 2018-03-25

Among others, the well known gyroscopic stability factor of a projectile depends on its geometric and physical data as for example the moments of inertia. By calculating these moments and estimating the overturning moment by Munk's formula, the authors are able to determine the gyroscopic stability factor as a function of the length and the slenderness of the projectile. For simple shapes, the authors get a closed formula. For more complicated shapes, the function can be calculated with a numerical method with a computer program.
