    Handloading log app reccomendation.

Always felt too constrained by 'apps'. Either they wanted info I didn't care about, or didn't have a spot for info I did care about, so I ended up sticking things in the notes/comments sections. Been using Google Docs & Sheets (I know, I know) for a while now. Docs for the 'narrative' log...

Forster dies, how much to hone out?

There's absolutely nothing about mandrel dies that precludes the use of F/L bushing dies.

    Ingenuity Precision trickler

Depends. If you have your own reamer, and have the same known-good person chamber your barrels, then that fired brass is going to be 'close enough' so as to not really matter. Think about it: the dies has to make the brass *smaller* in any number of dimensions than the chamber it's supposed to...

Fx120i not turning on, just ticking?

1 A = 1000 mA < 2000 mA, so... no. Not unless you want to smoke that one too.

    Redding competition shell holders

Never had an issue doing exactly that with my Co-Ax... and the dies were set up just off the shell plate. I've used the Redding Comp shell holders on other presses, and the fancy schmancy 419 shell holders on my Zero press... and I honestly can't tell the difference in the loaded ammo, either...

    Redding competition shell holders

And yet... I've never been able to see or shoot the difference.

    Does "Over-Annealing" Impact Shot Dynamics?

So... if I'm reading that correct, you took five pieces of virgin Lapua brass, and just annealed them four times in a row. No firing, no sizing, no work hardening, no... nothing that would be remotely similar to a normal loading/firing cycle. What exactly is supposed to be the point of this...

Bullet Tipping and Neck Turning worth doing?

As someone who has more than a little experience with both neck turning and bullet pointing for F-class... a) Unless you are shooting a KD sport like F-class, LR BR or ELR at a pretty serious level i.e. you're already *in* the winner's circle on a somewhat regular basis, and are looking to...

Dillon 550 RL won’t drop consistent charges

Or... you could take a page out of David Tubbs play book, and skip a station when putting the brass in. eg size a case, rotate the shell holder, *don't* place a new case, run the last one up to charge it, lower and rotate, put a new case in, size it, rotate (no new case), run up and charge seat...

Dillon 550 RL won’t drop consistent charges

RCBS makes a CAPD unit that mounts right on top of the tool head. It's got a pretty stout return spring, so it's gonna mow right thru any kernels that try to get in the way and hang up the UniFlow powder measure. Once upon a time, I tested the UniFlow just mounted on the bench, vs. in the...

    Cortina Precision Forums

I like Erik and value his opinion, so I joined (briefly) to see if the venue perhaps had a lower... signal-to-noise ratio... than some of the more common forums. It did... but for someone at my level (don't know everything, but it ain't my first rodeo) it seemed like more of an echo chamber...

    Variation in seating depth

Maybe. Helpful, I know 🤣 The seating stem is still going to be a smaller diameter than the bullet diameter, which is basically where the comparator is contacting. The reason you don't usually see manufacturers making the seater stem that big is the beveled cone area starts getting awful thin...

    Variation in seating depth

Where the cone of the seating stem touches the bullet is not the same as where you're measuring BTO, so they don't necessarily have any corelation to one another. Not much you can do about this, normally. Technically there are some options but they are kind of off in the weeds. Usually 'better...

Forster FL sizing die, brass wouldn't go in

That'd be frustrating as hell, for sure. But crap like that happens with other brands, too... my Redding Type 'S' F/L bushing 308 Win small base die over-sizes the hell out of the shoulder (diameter), and the custom 21st Century seater die that was made to size from 3x fired cases got sent back...

Forster FL sizing die, brass wouldn't go in

In theory, it should be way undersized every where but the shoulder datum line. In practice... not something I'd be comfortable with, personally.

Forster FL sizing die, brass wouldn't go in

Sticking a steel chamber gauge in a die that by design has to squeeze the brass cases just a little bit *smaller* than the chamber spec to allow for spring back seems like... a really bad idea. Stick to measuring the sized vs fired brass.

Dillon 550 RL won’t drop consistent charges

Biggest thing is to stop and really think about whether you actually *need* the charge weights to be more consistent than the stock powder measure throws, or just want them to be. For plinking / range ammo, probably not. For hunting - at the distances most people *actually* take their game at...

Forster FL sizing die, brass wouldn't go in

I've had similar experiences with dies that were brandy-new, or had just been cleaned thoroughly. The amount of 'stiction' involved in running an otherwise adequately lubed case through the die is surprising, at least until it builds up a bit of a film inside the die itself. And yes, it may...
