Not true. The BCG and barrel are proprietary and I'm assuming they did that to prevent the consumer from swapping parts around. Other than those parts it's just a low rail DPMS pattern rifle and you can use any barrel you want. Just have to change the BCG if you change the barrel.

You are most likely correct. Every 308 lower I have put together has had the takedown pin hole under the grip. I actually had to tap the hole in an M&P10 lower for a 4-40 set screw due to it not having enough spring tension on the pin and having it come completely out of the lower when taking...
