Re: Looking to get into LR shooting.. Help w/gun build Yes you will out grow Factory loads if you get into shooting a lot. You will want to reload your own so you can tune a load to your rifle.

Looking to get into LR shooting.. Help w/gun build

Re: Looking to get into LR shooting.. Help w/gun build I like the 6.5 creedmore better but for you it sounds like .308 would be the way to go. Like the other person said pick any medium to heavy Savage rifle out with a stock to your liking and you are in business. I would recommend a Vortex...

Re: Really Savage?? C'mon man! Ya I am also curious I am thinking about getting one I just looked at one last week. they seem to be pretty sweet to me. I would like to see your load data. And results, I think I'm more afraid of buying brass for it than buying the rifle.

why does the 308 always trump the 30-06

Re: why does the 308 always trump the 30-06 The reason that everyone shoots a .308 is that its cheaper, when you shoot 200 to 500 rounds every week or two the cost of powder and brass add up. I'm not a .308 shooter the only one I own is an old savage lever gun that belonged to my grandfather...

    My 1st Bolt Action

Re: My 1st Bolt Action If you get any of the 6.5mm family you will be very pleased. They are so nice to shoot, you can put a 100 rounds down range and it will seem like you only got to shoot 5 times. I would recommend any of the following: 6.5x47 Lapua/6.5 Creedmore/.260 the 6.5x47 would be...

Re: New to LR/Precision. Just picked up my first Try the vortex Viper PST line for optics they are the best bang for your buck Ive seen. Keep it 308 or go 223?

Re: Keep it 308 or go 223? Just a thought but for F class I would recommend a .284. you get really good ballistics. but the .308 isn't all bad. Or have you given the 7mm08 any thought you can reuse your brass. but if you go F-class you'll probably be using Lapua brass.

2 oz trigger on a tactical rifle?

Re: 2 oz trigger on a tactical rifle? I like mine at about 1lb. I don't like to have to pull on the trigger but I like to feel when its going to break. When you get in the ounces you cant feel it break. for me a 2lb trigger is to much I like it between 1 and 2 pounds.

    Help me choose a 6.5 or 7mm

Re: Help me choose a 6.5 or 7mm I would recommend the. 264 win mag. It will be a great between round and it doesn't sound like you are going to be shootin matches with it. So if that's the case barrel life won't be a problem. You still get a great BC and a lot less recoil than the 7 mag. If...
