Titanium firing pin for Rem 700

Stay away from titanium tips.. If you ever pierce a primer the tip will be forever etched. Do this a few times and the tip is ruined. If you want to run a titanium body then just know that it is about twice as heavy as the 70 series aluminum body. Dtubb

Range Report Crosswind Effect on Vertical Path of Flight

If you ever have the opportunity to shoot a crosswind jump dedicated range (500 yd) you will forever be changed in your outlook of the wind as a vertical component. Human error included. Dtubb

Range Report Crosswind Effect on Vertical Path of Flight

A full value cross wind at any range with a 2.0+ bullet gyroscopic stabilization will move the bullet impact up and or down (depending on direction) 3/8 of a MOA per 10 MPH full value wind. Example - you can shoot 1/2 MOA at 200 yards with your rifle. You go to a prairie dog town in the...

Do people actually use their slings when shooting precision rifle?

Using A 2 point sling in fast time stages is less than a 5 second setup.. The points of connection are in the forend area and will be about 1 foot apart. Most have probably never seen one used. DTubb

Question regarding full value wind on elevation

Tiro, A 3/8 MOA per 10 MPH vertical component would be present at all ranges. So a 600 yard target with 10 MPH true crosswind will effect your elevation 2.25 inches. This of course is not taking into account the coriolis effect which would also have a slight influence (about the size of a...

AR15 with Spikes tactical T2 buffer not cycling reloads un-suppressed

Truth be known the type of buffer offers little help with the function issue described here. Spring dynamics terms 1.free length (buffer spring under no stress) 2. Solid Height (buffer spring compressed to solid height) 3. Load at position "1" (bolt closed on the rifle) 4. Load at...

Where to find DATAC BN 115s?

I walked by the DTAC storage bin yesterday and there are about 20 + different boxes of 115's on the shelf. Only problem is they are 100 or 200 count (# guess is from memory )so they are not a listed item on the website. Nothing wrong with the bullets just didn't have enough left from a...

Gunsmithing Firing pin help with decision. Chime in!

Re: Firing pin help with decision. Chime in! Remington factory pins are normally just shy of .060" of bolt face protrusion while the SSS Speedlock are about .015" longer. Unless altered I would expect these numbers to be representative. .015" difference in length would be a significant...

Gunsmithing Firing pin help with decision. Chime in!

Re: Firing pin help with decision. Chime in! If the bolt face firing pin protrusion of both pins are equal the Speedlock will mathematically deliver more inch/ounces of energy onto the primer.

Gunsmithing Firing pin help with decision. Chime in!

Re: Firing pin help with decision. Chime in! To my knowledge SSS has never had a failure on a 2 piece Rem 700 pin. Never mind the lock time reduction the increase in inch/ounces of striker energy along with a chrome silicon spring that never needs replacing makes it a no brainer for...

    Buffer spring effect on accuracy???

Re: Buffer spring effect on accuracy??? Griffin, PM me your address and I will ship you a Flatwire with a Sandstrom 28A coating. It is a permanent dry lub and makes the buffer spring even quieter. More than likely this coating will be integrated into our Chrome Silicon spring products. I am...

    Ballistic Program

Re: Ballistic Program Under 1300 -+fps closed form equations using retard coeffiecents put G1/G7/G whatever in the dirt. In the near future there will be new ballistic programs that solve supersonic/transonic/subsonic bullet flight to the target. DTubb

Best overall SA 308 bolt face competition caliber?

Re: Best overall SA 308 bolt face competition caliber? Just to clear up any misunderstandings. I used DTAC 115's every year at the 300 and 600 yard stages of Camp Perry (use a lighter weight Sierra for 200 yds). I have also used them every year (excepting 2010) in all the 1000 yard matches...

Help me choose a high end barrel...

Re: Help me choose a high end barrel... Several years ago Schneider won the Marine Corps test of longest lasting 308 barrel that met their accuracy standard. Gary has a barrel in the shop the Corp sent back for him to evaluate. It still was shooting better than their "standard" at over...

    Accuracy nodes for 115 DTACs

Re: Accuracy nodes for 115 DTACs Henry Childs successfully uses 115 DTAC's in his modified 270 case at 3268 fps in 600 yard BR matches. Henry is very knowledgeable with any subject dealing with long range accuracy.

    Tubb AR500 Stake Targets

Re: Tubb AR500 Stake Targets Conrad, Didnt know you had some of these. As you know the stake is also made from AR 500 so impact at close range wont buckle the stake. However I suggest hanging them with the stake edge on for close work (inside 200yd). Many of these (our ranges) have over...

    Spin drift

Re: Spin drift Across the Course and long range shooters are able to discern spin drift from an iron sighted match rifle (with sights properly levelled). One of the aids I use when teaching is an 1898 30/40 Krag. Flip up the rear sight (220gr round nose at approx. 2300fps). Precession is...
