Or browning a-bolt. And as far as caliber goes big rounds are for people that might make a bad shot and can still kill the animal. 308 is enough to kill anything in this country except maybe a Bigfoot. As long as you can shoot where you aim and can wait to take the shot at the right time- Codsmak
