Anyone using the 107 SMK in 243 winchester?

I just shoot at a piece of steel until my final load.

Anyone using the 107 SMK in 243 winchester?

I don't care about yardage, 100, 200, 500 does not matter. I am looking only at the velocity data. I am looking for the level part of the curve plotting velocity vs. charge weight. With 0.2 grain increments, I usually get 2 nodes each with 2 consistent charges. Going by 0.1, I get 4 data...

    Gunsmithing Lucas Oil Bore Solvent

Lucas bore solvent is more aimed towards the Ultrasonic, and as a general cleaner. It is great in the US. It won't cut copper in the bore, nor built up carbon deposits. I don't use it as a bore cleaner at all. I use a few different products for the bore, depending on what I am trying to...

Anyone using the 107 SMK in 243 winchester?

H4831SC for powder. The 115s have proven to be the best for me, but the 105s and 107s are not that far behind. I don't shoot groups for load development. I do a 10 round ladder test with 0.2 grain increments, then I do a 10 round with 0.1 increments around the node I like to tune it in. So...

Gunsmithing building a 6.5 cm or rem 260

Last year, about this time I looked at ammo for both on Midway. .260 Rem was about 26 loads, 6.5CM was about 32 loads. Today, .260Rem was 32 loads and 6.5CM was 42 loads. BassPro, Cabelas and Scheels all had a good selection of both in about the same ratio last time I looked locally.

    PRS Talk Rebarreling production rifle

Maybe it could have been, but (did you actually read the italicised QUOTE from the PRS rulebook in my post) it is not. Words have meaning. Not that your comment does not have merit, but that needs to go to the folks at PRS. I sent them some similar comments, as well as several other comments...

    Gun/ammo/optic insurance?

If you are eligible for USAA and don't have them, you are making a mistake! For the rest of us, yes, a rider on the homeowners is the first check as most homeowners policies are $2500 max. NRA offers some to all members, plus additional. Eastern has been good from what I have seen. Also, be...

    First AR Build Help!

I would go with a .223 Wylde Chamber over the CLE chamber, and yes, I would suggest build it over buy it. DrainTheSwamp2017, you should buy a lotto ticket with that gamble paying off. :)

Would you support age restriction on semi-auto firearms?

IF, we can have background checks for voter ID and driver's license AND only those things for US Citizens, AND raise the draft age to 21 AND raise the voter age to 21 to match the drinking age. If those things could be made iron-c;lad, after that, I might be willing to have a discussion...

a few questions...please bare with me

The headspace is set by the manufacturer when the barrel extension is threaded onto the barrel. The extension contains the locator pin, feedramps, bolt locking lugs etc. Here is an image of an extension...

    Gunsmithing Guns in a Fire

Unless the FD issues him a citation, there is no easy basis for the Insurance Company to deny a claim. That means they have to work pretty hard to prove intent. I have been on both sides as an expert, even cases where criminal intent was obvious, but the insurance company paid to avoid the...

    Gunsmithing Guns in a Fire

You would be amazed what insurance pays, after 25 years working in this industry on the investigative side, I am still amazed at times. They pay based on the policy, if he had coverage. If he did not, nothing anyone can do about it. Guy is having a rough week, don't make it worse. Public...

    Gunsmithing Guns in a Fire

It may be possible to save a few barrels, but the reconditioning and testing will likely cost more than they are worth. You surely had temperatures above 1200, and likely into to 2000 range just based on what I see, so your actions will be ruined for sure. So sorry.

Gunsmithing building a 6.5 cm or rem 260

Been a .260 fan for years, but when the current barrel goes, that rifle is going to .243Win and I will be getting a 6.5CM. I shot my sons 6.5CM (22") next to my .260Rem (21.5") with 120s to 143s and the difference was minimal, and nothing that was an advantage at all. The 6,5CM is supported...

What .223 bolt rifle to get my kids into the tactical match game?

Ruger American Predator with an AT-One stock with a SWFA SS 10x. What my boys shot when they got to bolt guns. One of them just moved up to a Bergara B-14 HMR at 13 in 6.5CM and has done really well with it, but it weighs a good bit more.

The cheapest of the cheap. What to buy?

I like, and own, and would recommend the Ruger American Predator. I dropped mine in an AT-One stock for $200 and it is a shooter. I am going to take off the XTRII 2-10 and put a 4.5-14 on it. A little lighter and a little less money I think fits it well.
