    M40 Build Guide

Well, today is the day. My action and barrel will be on their way to Longrifles, Inc for the metalwork. I guess while they are gone I need to get to work on the stock and bottom metal....

Amazing pics. Thanks for the details. This brings up another interesting question..... When did Remington incorporate the take-down slot (where you put the dime) in the cocking piece to assist in field stripping the bolt?

    M40 Build Guide

Well, I guess I am a bit of a masochist. I have been married twice, and have either been in, or worked for, the Army for 30+ years. Based on that, I must enjoy punishing myself. Besides, the only correct trigger I have is a two-sear unit. C'est la vie. As for the Single Malt, I agree with...

    M40 Build Guide

I was putting my stripped, 6-digit action back together last night, getting it ready to be rebarreled. While trying to install the trigger, it, of course, slips.... *ping* *ting...ting*..... I KNEW there was a reason I had Timneys in all of my other 700s. :( The dual sear trigger may be...

    M40 Build Guide

Gentlemen; I am sure most of you have read MescaBug's thread on his original M40 stock. Well, Marty at Badger weighed in with some VERY detailed information that will be of interest to those of you who are obsessed with the gnat's backside of details (Paging Bolt_Trash...paging Dr...

    M40 Build Guide

Received an e-mail from Shilen today. My barrel is inbound. That is pretty much the last piece to the puzzle. Once it arrives, I will send the barrel, action, and stripped bolt to Longrifles, Inc to let them do their part, then I will get the barreled action Parkerized and put it together...

    M40 Build Guide

Spent some time working on the 700 Police stock from Numrichs yesterday. Stripped the finish with Citri-Strip and did some rounding of the tip of the forend. I can see I will need to remove quite a bit of material from the forend to match the shape and contour of the M-40 stock. I have an...

    M40 Build Guide

Gentlemen; If any of you are looking for the correct, short bolt shroud/plug, Numrich has them listed under the Remington 40X parts. The one I got was dirty, but in very good used condition. It is currently on its second iteration of rusting for a polished, rust-blued finish. Mossyrock

    M40 Build Guide

Well....that's complicated. I have a couple of web slings that might/should/could fit the bill. But what is correct? I can always fall back on my old standby and personal favorite sling...the 1907. Hard to go wrong with a good quality 1907 National Match sling.

Gunsmithing Remington 700 Bolt disassembly firing pin disassembly

Well, crap. Gotta be one of those days..... Drove out the cocking piece pin, but the cocking piece will NOT separate from the firing pin. Right now, it is soaking in Kroil, just in case it is corroded together. Any other suggestions that doesn't involve explosives or a BFH?

I am pretty sure I already know the answer to this question.....

So, Widefield Accu-Range scopes were NOT used on the M40, correct?

    M40 Build Guide

Hmmmm...... Interesting. Any idea of the length of a 40X bolt shroud (or "plug" as Remington calls them)?

    M40 Build Guide

Well, crap.... Did Remington ever have a safety recall on those short shrouds? The reason I ask is that I have a seven-digit serial number 700 with the longer, modern bolt shroud. Nothing that can't be solved in ten minutes on a lathe, but I shouldn't HAVE to.

    M40 Build Guide

Measurement, please? Gents, I need a measurement from an early model 700/M40 bolt shroud. I need either the overall length of the shroud when removed from the bolt, or the distance from where it contacts the rear of the bolt to the end of the shroud. Thanks!!

I am pretty sure I already know the answer to this question.....

But were any of the Redfield Accu-Range scopes used on the USMC M40 Widefield models?

What would you vintage folks do to this vintage caliber 1984 R700?

Gonna have to disagree with you on that one. I have a seven-digit 700 with the serial number EPd on the bolt. .243 caliber.
