Question about the forster FL sizer/ultra seater set

Interesting how we piece together die sets. For my 25-06 I use a Lee Collet Neck Die or a Lyman FL Size Die, a Redding Body Die and a Forster Ultra Seat Die. For my 223 I use a Redding FL Size Die, a Forster Ultra Seat Die and a Redding Taper Crimp Die. For my 221 Fireball I use a RCBS...

Really liking my RCBS Summit press!

Congratulations on your new press. What model Redding are you disatisfied with? I have two Ultramags that I will never part with as long as I can still reload. Primers are dropped through a hole in the ram. Very clean very controlled. I had a Redding model 25 that I could not warm up to...

    Stupid Press Question

Unless you like blood blisters and pinching your fingers you will get frustrated with the Co-Ax loading long cartridges. You will have to stick the bullet up into the seat die and drop it down onto the top of the case. Akward at best and trying to hold it in alignment when you go to seat it...

Shot my first reloads, here the pics!

You never hit the quarter one time. I think you need more practice.

Case Prep and Seating for Preventing Runout

One thing I do when adjusting the Lee Collet Neck Die - I keep a bevel base bullet handy and use it to do a quick fit check to the brass. You can also measure the ID of the neck during die adjustment ... size, measure ... repeat. Keep in mind you'll never get the neck ID the same dimension as...

    OCW - Step 2 - 200 Yards

Did you use all the same units, inches not feet. You need to thing about it in terms of minute of angle. 1 MOA =~1" at 100 yards, ~2" at 200 yards. If you can equate 1/100" to an angular movement you will have a different answer.

    OCW - Step 2 - 200 Yards

Also, you are doing the right thing paying attention to the data and questioning your role in the process.

    OCW - Step 2 - 200 Yards

Everything matters. I have a Ruger #1 that was driving me nuts. Turned out the biggest variable was where the forestock was contacting the rest. Barrel was free floated and trigger was crisp. Once I discovered the "problem" it all came together. Make sure you are consistent with every...

    Reducing Bullet Runout

+1 on the O-ring. Lee die rings come with the O-ring built into the ring. I like them so much I bought them for all my dies.

Case Prep and Seating for Preventing Runout

"Isn't there a lot of possible variance or error when doing this by feel as opposed to some way of measure?" There is. The Lee Classic presses have a mechanical stop on the linkage that allows you to raise the ram until it hits the stop. I get better control using the mechanical stop with the...

    How are you measuring runout?

Case Prep and Seating for Preventing Runout

I do and I clamp them down tight using only my hand, no wrench. The Lee Collet Neck Die works great but it takes a bit of trial and error to get the full benefit It's easy to over-pressure the ram stroke. If you are getting vertical lines in the case neck from the flutes in the collet you...

Case Prep and Seating for Preventing Runout

An early step is to measure the neck runout before you start the loading process. I find runout at this stage to be associated with the difference in neck wall thickness. You can sort the brass into uniform batches or neck turn the brass for uniformity. When sizing, tighten the die after a...

What level of runout on brass would you accept after using FL sizing die?

I use No1's die alignment technique too. Run the case into the die before you lock the die down. It works really well.

What level of runout on brass would you accept after using FL sizing die?

I recently did a batch of fifty 25-06 that I re-form from HXP headstamp 30-06 brass. I just use a Lyman FL sizer die with the expander button in the die to do the re-form. After the initial re-size I sort by runout. Always the runout matched the non-uniform neck wall thickness. About 1/3...

    IMR 7828 t° sensitivity ?

I live in upstate NY. We get high 90's in the summer and really cold in the winter. Most of my load development is in the colder times of year. I gave up on 7828, not because of accuracy issues, but loads that I developed in the late fall were over-pressure loads in the summer. Same reason I...
