Older AICS 2.0 vs AICS AT 2.0

The biggest difference is the thumb hole vs pistol grip. If you put a thumbhole stock on the AICS AT the only difference I can think of would be the location and type of sling mounts and the removable mounting panels.

Buffer and Spring Recommendations For .308 AR

Any 308 spring is longer and going to slow the bcg more. Some polished springs like the JP ones are slightly quieter. I don't have any experience but I've been thinking about trying a silent capture if you want to go all out. A lot lot of people carry .875 adjustable gas blocks. I recommend...

Is the basic atlas worth the money?

I have each and like Atlas better. The feet grip better. The cant adjustment is smoother and easier to lock down. The bipod can adjust lower by locking the legs in the 45 position. It is easier to mount to and detach from the rifle. It's modular with interchangeable feet and leg extensions...

Clamp On vs. Set Screwed Gas Blocks

I use clamp on. I don't see a reason to put a stress concentration in the wall of a pressure vessel if I don't have to.

    Input On Adjustable Gas Blocks?

I have a seekins, JP and slr. I like the SLR the best. It has a leaf spring locking mechanism that is automatic and reliable. I don't like the set screw locking on the JP as nearly as much. The seekins adjustable block seems cheap compared to the others. Whatever you choose, make sure the...

Bolt Action Rifle, Where to Begin?

As stated above, I recommend looking at a used rifle. You can use up what is left and then start upgrading where the previous owner left off. You can find anything if you're patient. Used Remington 700s are a dime a dozen and condition isn't that important if you're upgrading everything anyway...

Remington 700 5R upgrades. Advice appreciated

I'm in the minority here but I found an AICS chassis to be a fantastic upgrade to my Remington 700. Fully adjustable in comb and length of pull plus great magazines. I always hated pushing rounds into the box mag on the 700...or worse yet unloading them. You can probably find an AICS 1.5 for a...

Were you are now what would you tell yourself as a beginner?

Buy a good quality 1/2 moa or better rifle to start. Had I had any idea what a rifle could really do I would have become obsessed with shooting about 15 years earlier when I had the free time to enjoy it.

    Bag or bipod?

The most helpful thing I found was building the position correctly. If something was off (and by off I mean that reticle was off the target when you were in position with the bipod loaded) dont simply force the reticle on target. Build your position again to obtain the natural point of aim. The...

    Bag or bipod?

Agreed, I have found a front bag to be more forgiving but a bipod and rear bag to be easier and equally accurate once you get the hang of it.

Rifle Scopes Leupold mark 4 ER/T questions

I have the 6.5-20 x 50 FFP Mark 4 ER/T and have been very happy with it. A long time ago I ran a crude box test and everything moved accurately and repeated. It has the TMR reticle which I like and the M5 turrets which have good solid clicks but do not lock or have a zero stop. I've had the...

How many are anal about the measure of powder and what you shoot at/

I'm one of those guys that uses a RCBS Chargemaster to throw charges then puts it on a balance scale to trickle up to 0.1. I plan to load a bunch directly from the chargemaster but I'm too anal to let that uncertainty creep in. My life would be much better if I found the chargemaster rounds to...

AI .308 Twist Rate vs Year of the Bullet

I have the 1:12 20" factory AIAT barrel and use 175 smks. It may not be as stabilized as it should be but I get great accuracy printing groups at 100-200 yards and banging steel out to 700. I also see AI takeoff barrels selling quickly online so there is a market if you want to sell it.

When I decide to get a 6.5CM prefit for my AIAT it will be from Patriot Valley Arms. They also sell through Bison Tactical.

    Reloading/group size app for iOS?

I use Gun Log SPC. It allows you to build a database of firearms, accessories, ammo and shooting sessions. The ammo section let's you input components details and prices of loaded ammo. The shooting section lets you link the firearms fired to the ammo used and track atmospherics, distance...

    How often to anneal

It wasn't lapua. I started reloading using my once fired federal gold medal match ammo. I have got all that past 10 firing and moved to Norma. What kind of useful life are you getting out of Lapua brass and how is it failing?

AI or Custom? **Delivered. Update in OP**

Maybe go with an almost new AI from the post exchange. I love my AIAT. It shoots amazingly well and has a fantastic smooth action. I went with the AIAT for the quick change barrels and availability of aftermarket barrels. It didn't hurt that I knew the resale value was there if I wanted...

    How often to anneal

Maybe I need to switch brass. I load middle of the range and my primer pockets loosen up after 10ish and I set the lot aside.

    How often to anneal

I anneal every third firing primarily to extend brass life. I do notice a difference in seating pressure but it doesn't seem to impact my level of precision. I normally shoot 3/8 to 1/2" groups at 100 yards from a bench using a bipod and rear bag.
