    Gunsmithing Opening up a Tikka bolt face

    I’ve done quite a few from .473 to mag. Haven’t had one come back or had any complaints, and couldn’t get one to malfunction. No mods to the extractor. I haven’t experimented with .223-.308 so not sure about that. Just my (first hand) experience with it.

    Speaking of Lilja...OD, ID relationship is often WAY off. Bores are not nearly as straight, often with two different curve directions rather than the usual single gentle curve. Contouring is inconsistent, often with a low spot ahead of the taper. Like Chad said, they can cause phone calls...

    Saami throat is longer than needed, even with factory ammo. .297” neck and .150” throat is a good spot.

    Cocking piece hitting bolt body in ramp. Also if it’s a sloppy action and the root of the handle is resting on its stop, when the sear falls and the rear of the bolt drops, it’ll flick the handle up .

    Thanks 30338, that barrel was very straight in the lathe and I’m glad it’s shooting well.
