    Inflation.......... ?

Malum Prohibitum - my only suggestion for a person who is into stocks is that they either direct register their shares or take delivery of the stock certificates. Ditto for any accounts the person controls. That reduces the exposure and the brokerage cannot hypothecate them and expose the...

    Inflation.......... ?

I have neighbors who are very much keep up with the Jones' mindset. They bragged about their 7% CD but if real inflation is 8% their purchasing power is contracting. Buy less with more dollars. Concur 100%. He has fallen prey to consumerism, exposed to repossession and likely foreclosure...

    Inflation.......... ?

Nothing I've seen suggests that "they" want us to have high savings. AFAIK, since we are (or were) a consumer based economy, they want us to consume (spend like there's no tomorrow). Stocks go up under hyperinflation. Historical precedents include Weimar, Zimbabwe and Venezuela. However...

Went to sell my 49-56 MSE and ended up spending more money

Please see what you can find in French sniper rifles of WW II. I suspect if they had any it was left over from WW I.

    Inflation.......... ?

Sally Student is largely a 1990s creation. Many women attending college in the old days (pre-Fed Guaranteed Student Loan) didn't have that mountain of debt and in the '40s, many were working for the Mrs. Degree (sexist but true). My aunt told me she went to UC Berkeley in the late '40s for...

    Inflation.......... ?

Final word: It is not about doom and gloom. If you anticipate & mitigate, you can thrive as hard times can also be opportunity. As the Get Even! author George Hayduke said, "Where there is confusion, there is profit."

    Inflation.......... ?

Todd brought up his historical perspective. Absolutely nothing wrong with what he wrote but I can offer an older perspective. Back in my days you could flip burgers, wait on tables, pump gas AND walk away from college with no debt. Those were the days before guaranteed school loans. All the...

    Inflation.......... ?

No, the solution isn't to build more houses. In an era of central planning where the central bank chooses the winners and the losers, the solution is to have a sound monetary system and not the current fiat based fractional reserve banking system. There is no free market price discovery. Most...

    Vintage Sniper Rifle Picture Thread

@Wonko_The_Sane Did you make a mandrel or use a Forster scope mount jig to drill and tap for the pads? Do you have a milling machine? I know the Brits used a jig that was clamped onto the receiver for drilling/tapping.

Is that Israeli mount steel or aluminium? I know the USAMTU learned that the latter can walk.

CMP has sniper rifle up for auction

I think pedigree papers is a better term for the critters (dogs, horses, mebbe even cattle). I have three degrees: HKU (Hard Knock University) and State Pen (not to be confused with Penn State). My most important one is 98.6 b/c if you don't have that, you could be sick.

Amazing. I couldn't even come close. Bravo Mr. Jamon.

CMP has sniper rifle up for auction

Lest we forget, some rich flaunt their wealth by buying garbage (mistakenly passed off as) "art" sold by a gallery or some auction house. If they donate it to their family foundation or their charity, they receive a tax writeoff and "favorable" public image. The only other time I'm aware of...

CMP has sniper rifle up for auction

Because the Pentagon had to save $$$ for gold plated toilet seats, the guys on the line have to improvise. I'm going to be a plumbing contractor and steal toilet seats for a living. Easier than getting into Fort Knox.

    M1C / MC-52 scope

I haven't seen that historical documentary/flick Hell to Eternity sincd childhood and didn't realize the widespread use of M1903s by the Japanese. Didn't realize that "made in Japan" was something undesirable to the Japanese. Sidenote: a recent book on World War II sniper rifles has the image...

CMP has sniper rifle up for auction

The bider is paying for a piece of history supported by its provenance; as will be evidenced by the CMP paperwork. It's like a M1903A4 that doesn't have papers - Then it's worth the sum of the parts.

    M1C / MC-52 scope

Peter Senich says the OD color Kommorgens were not purchased by the USMC. I have one myself but would gladly swap it for an authentic USMC marked one. Now, the Japanese sniper in the Hollywood flick, Hell to Eternity, certainly used a rifle with a G&H side mount and a Kollmorgon. Too bad the...
