Best spotting scope for over 1 mile

The larger the objective, the greater the resolution. 115mm quite a bit bigger than 95mm so no surprise that it wins the IQ challenge over the 95, or perhaps even anything else. $7000, 8 pounds and 18 inches long make up the price you pay for that.

Best spotting scope for over 1 mile

I completely agree with that, which is why I was a little envious of the coaches who had such optics during my coaching days. The price is steep on those Highlanders, but it is what it is. I find the 883 to be about as good as it gets for viewing from position and being able to detect every...

Best spotting scope for over 1 mile

The Kowa Highlander Fluorite model is definitely the top, but at 14 pounds and 17inches by 9 1/2 inches, it's kinda big looking through it in position. I have seen some team coaches using them.

March 4.5 28 and SB 320 owners I need advice

I have not used an S&B 320, but I have used a March 4.5-28X52 with the FML-PDK reticle. The reticle is very visible at 4.5X, where the main bars of the reticle stand out, and the tree aspect is more like a chevron at that magnification. You can see that here...

March 4.5 28 and SB 320 owners I need advice

I'm not sure I understand your question about the bottom end of magnification being usable. The March-FX 4.5-28X52 HM runs from 4.5X to 28X and it's all usable. The FOV at 4.5X is almost 30 feet at 100 yards, which is huge for that magnification. I'm sure is smaller than the FOV of the S&B...

    March 5-40x56 vs sightron 5-40x56

I am not familiar with the Sightron 5-40X56, but I am well acquainted with the March-FX 5-40X56. So, I had to look at the specs of the Sightron SVIII 5-40X56 ID IR ZERO, which I think is the one to which you are referring. Well, you said you wanted a big dialer, and that Sightron is certainly...

Best spotting scope for over 1 mile

I went ahead and tried the 80-XW with the 1.6X extender this weekend. Combining the two devices produces a magnification of 56X, with a wide angle of view. At long distance over open terrain, it works just fine. I also tried it looking at closer in objects like houses and rooftops and I found...

    Kowa TE-80XW

I have not noticed an improvement in IQ as far as resolution of a specific object like a target at the same magnification compared to my 25-60X eyepiece or the 25X LER eyepiece. I do get the impression that the image is brighter at the same magnification but that's probably due to the larger...

Best spotting scope for over 1 mile

I have the 1.6x extender but I have not tried it with the 80XW yet. Thanks for reminding me, I might try it this weekend and report back.

Yeah, I understand. $700 for an eyepiece is a bit of a shock.

Best spotting scope for over 1 mile

It's a great eyepiece. A little pricey, but it delivers. I have been using it at the monthly matches (1000 yards) and it has now replaced the long eye relief eyepiece that I had on there from the start. The 80XW is just that good. Over the last few years, I have become enamored of the...

Help with spotting scope for CMP / High Power shooting

I have had an 82SV for a decade, it's a great spotting scope at a good price. This past summer I upgraded to the 883 because I wanted the fluorite glass, which only comes in the 99X, the 99X, and the 55x. The 99x was way too heavy and big for use in position and I read too many bad reviews of...

Help with spotting scope for CMP / High Power shooting

I'll second the recommendation for the 663 with the TSE-17HD LER eyepiece. The 663 model does not have fluorite glass lenses, but it does have XD lenses. It should fit your budget nicely. Fluorite glass would take you way over budget and only comes in the 88mm and 99mm spotters. I've been...

Rifle Scopes Where Are We At With LPVO's

Well, there is the March-FX 1-10X24 DR which is a true 1X and weighs in at 20.8 oz. The dual reticle is very usable during the day, the SFP reticle is easy seen and you have the center illuminated dot if you want it on. The FFP reticle will come into play as you increase the magnification...

    March or S&B - i can't decide...

That's a nice setup. I have a 10-60X56 HM on my F-TR rifle. I also use the large focus wheel, but not for ranging, it's to help with my arthritis and it enhances the granularity of the focus. Now, if I can make one comment, I notice your lens cap on the objective lens is not locked down flat...

    magnification whores, check this out

Since this is a thread about magnification and the whores who chase it, (I am unabashedly one of those), DEON has introduced the most powerful riflescope on the planet, the Majesta. It's an 8-80X56 with Super ED lenses, and a wide-angle eyepiece, among other features. It is an SFP design and...
