Any mountain bikers out there 2.0

Didn’t do the race, but did SO for a Guns and Gears mountain bike biathlon yesterday in the Hill Country outside of San Antonio. And coached my friend to a women’s 2nd place, and she was using a loner Savage single shot pink 22LR, she’d only shot once the day before to do it. Good day.

Sidearms & Scatterguns SRO on older 320 X5

Appreciate the comments. Athena shows a plate for Legend and a straight 320, though what they show would not work on the older X5 I have in hand. I’ll see how this holds up in match and regular use and keep these links for reference. Thanks.

Would you get into 6.5 Grendel in 2024?

Anyone else tried this 5/16 round mag from Brenton. Will go to 2.3 OAL, though I might have a concern about recoil induced bullet pushback. More, after some testing. Insert limits you to 5 rounds, they say 16-I’d prefer to hold it to 15, with limiter removed.

Sidearms & Scatterguns SRO on older 320 X5

For the record, for the older, pre-Legend and other 320X5 variants, this worked.

Sidearms & Scatterguns SRO on older 320 X5

Have looked at older threads regarding correct mount or sealing plates for an SRO on 320 X5, but as most of those threads date back to 2021, what is current recommendation for solid mounting solution for this application? Figure better tech has come along in 3 years, and my eyes have sent me a...

    6.5 Grendel

Appreciate your comments, and largely agree that after once fired initially, Lapua lasts through many firings-I do anneal all my brass after every firing, and is very uniform in case weight through multiple lots. My gripe is having to grow shoulders .013-.016, depending on chamber, from new...

    6.5 Grendel

And these today at Midway. Very good bullet, in my experience.

    6.5 Grendel

LRRP Would sure like to hear your comments as to why Lapua, whose Grendel brass, once formed properly, is excellent, but requires at least .013 shoulder growth to fit most chambers, even on the min spec side. They’re pre-annealed, but require some careful attention in the fire forming process...

    6.5 Grendel

Not sure how extensive your measuring tools are, but are absolutely essential for accurately determining shoulder as fired and correct setback. Much will depend on chamber in your barrel of concern. I have multiple chambers to match setback to, as well as case diameter just forward of base...

    6.5 Grendel

I’ve used a bucket load of these 123CC prime and seconds. If you want to go to the trouble to sort seconds by base to ogive, they can be more than acceptably accurate. These don’t hit your price point, but are an option...

    6.5 Grendel

8208 was in stock at Powder Valley earlier today-should go quick.

Would you get into 6.5 Grendel in 2024?

There are many options in the mid tier range of barrel choices-Wilson Combat, Satern cut rifle, Rainier UM, Lilja, Craddock RTR, Proof SS, Precision Firearms Samurai, among a few. The barrel is the heart of the gun, and if you want your friend’s first AR experience to be a successful, long term...

6.5 CM data with 123gr bullets

Have used 39ish Varget with 123 Scenars in a 20” Proof CF AR platform, though have more recently switched over to H4350. 2835fps, low SD’s and very accurate. 42.3gr gets me there.

Question for Forster Co-Ax press owners

You should be GTG. Inline Fab mounts are once and done, with lots of flexibility for other presses as you expand your fleet.

    6.5 Grendel

It is scarce, though is starting to show up. Powder Valley, Bruno’s, Midsouth, Drifters and Natchez have had it, sometimes under $400/8lb and if lucky, no hazmat. 8208 is also great, and even more rare in the wild. CFE223 or Lever are your velocity kings, but you have to address their temp...

    6.5 Grendel

Go straight to 27.0gr +/- .2gr AR Comp with BR4, 7 1/2’s or 450’s with almost any 120/123 class bullet. Accurate, temp stable, low SD’s, 2475-2550 depending on chamber, distance to lands and barrel length. Works in most every Grendel I own. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

Preference for basic die sets - RCBS, Forster, Hornady or other?

Have used RCBS in my earlier years, migrated to Redding bushing dies, but more more recent experience is using a Forster full length sizing die and Redding carbide mandrel for 6.5GR/CM, 223 and 22/250. Annealed every firing regardless, and runouts have been .001-.0015 max with revised process...
