    This is painful.

    Short action hunting caliber ?

7-08 with 162-168g bullets will do what you want. People talk about these magnums and shooting target. I guess I’m just a puss, I don’t want to put a 100 rounds down range in a day behind a magnum.

SAC Modular Sizing Die - Neck/Shoulder Bushing Measurement

Measuring brass thickness and doing the math works, but it’s much easier to just measure the loaded round and subtract .002” and cal it a day. If you get ready to order and the ER11-5/16 collet for the 30-06 is still out of stock I’ve found a supplier for them. They’ve been out of stock over...

35 Whelen, A great round being forgotten.

338-06 with a 210-225 cup and core is really really good medicine.

Diagnose my failures to fire - Rem700 *SOLVED*

Headspace, while possible, would have to be really bad to misfire.

Never owned a true precision/marksman/long range bolt action...First one

Nothing about 300 blackout equates to 308 long range loading. If that’s what you’re suggesting.

Help me decide: Barreled action or Barrel + Action

I would spend the money on the tools up front. You’re overlooking one of the great things about an action that can take prefits. Two barrels. Hell ten barrels. Maybe a heavy target barrel and a sporter 338 Fedral or something else for heavy hunting. 22-250 to 358 Winchester. Game on if...

When did you realize you were getting old?

49 specifically. That’s not old, but that’s when my heavily abused body started falling apart. Old man skin on the forearms was a real one too.

Lightweight Stock Recommendation Remington 700 Footprint

I’ve only used Manners and have nothing but great things to say about them. I know many people who have went to AG composites and are very happy with their product. Shortening your barrel 2” but going to a smaller bore will not return much weight savings. Now changing calibers because you...

    Straight walled wildcats

The old adage, “ a 9mm might expand but a 45 will never contract” applies here. I mean really a 9mm at .355 might expand 50% but it will never compare to a .452 or .458 hardcast at the same speed.

For that matter, I’ve shot 45 Colt at 395 grains and 1000 fps out of a lever that holds 9 shots.

    Straight walled wildcats

My point is, if you’re buying a barrel never download a cartridge to obtain subs. Twist it and shoot the heaviest bullet you can. You want a 300 BO at 220g or a 450 at 5-600g. Same speed.

    Straight walled wildcats

I guess I’m overlooking the obvious but why is a 45-70 or 450Marlin with a 500+ grain bullet not on your list. High bc bullets are a joke at sub speeds. You want tonnage. All Tikka rifles are long action and a 300 WSM action will feed a 450 Marlin. Twist it tight and add bullet weight until...

    Recommendation for a stock

I know this is a stock thread and I recommend and use manner carbon fiber… but That’s a lot of barrel. I chose the #4 over the HV just because of the weight. The #4 holds pretty solid for 10 shot strings although I don’t know how much further it can be pushed. I’d have to look it up again...

    Flat or Curved Trigger?

I disagree. If you have to feel your way around every time you need more time behind your rifle. Dry fire practice cures a lot of what ails you.
