    Pin and weld suppressor?

Yeah, I get it. The whole idea of going light on the can was bad from the start. I've been messing with ARs for better than a couple of decades now and it remains my favorite platform. They are just downright fun to shoot and get the job done. ... but once, just once, I'd like my to be able...

A perfectly gassed rifle is a beautiful thing

No doubt. They shoot great, but don't handle adverse conditions very well.

Good .223 DMR/MPVO Optic These Days?

For me, it was eurooptic. What set the hook was the no tax offer. Lol Yeah, that reticle was the last bit of pull the Mark 5 had, other than that sexy profile. Honestly, I don't see Leupold doing that. There has to be at least a bit of cannibalization going on between the Mark 4 and 5 as it...

Good .223 DMR/MPVO Optic These Days?

I won't say that I'm a scope connoisseur of any sort, but I am kind of a scope freak. The optic is the most important part of the rig for me. I was also in the market for a shorter, lighter, practical scope for out to 800 on steel. I'm no Leupold fan boy and haven't owned one in decades, but...

    Pin and weld suppressor?

Thanks bud. This is what I was really worried about. What's starting to look like the smart thing to do is just sticking with a pistol brace. I hate dealing with pin and welds too. Eh, I've done some stupid crap over the years, just because something seemed like a good idea at the time. Thanks...

    Screaming Deals on Armalite Barrels

Man, I don't know. That's over torqued by more than 30%. That's way into barrel nut torque territory. I think I'd feel compelled to redo that. Yeah, putting anything on the threads pretty much acts as a lubricant, but a little too loose is better than way too tight. Just to be sure you're...

    Pin and weld suppressor?

I started this thread just to ask a couple of questions because I was pondering a little project that was fueled by nothing more than boredom. My end goal is to have a dedicated, suppressed rig that is as compact as possible and shoots smoothly with a broad range of ammunition.

What torque spec did you use? The upper end of the torque specs that I've seen is 30 ft-lbs. If your target was 30 and you went to 31, I don't think I'd worry about it.

    Screaming Deals on Armalite Barrels

I've heard of Black Arc ammo. Their 77s scream out of the barrel, from what Ive seen in the videos by xring. Gotta get me some of that. It shot pretty good too.

Ok, yes. That's what I do and use heavy springs for. As for muzzle devices, I do a little trick that I've gotten a feel for that results in about 20 ft-lbs, pretty consistently. When Im being anal, I'll put the torque wrench on it.

    Screaming Deals on Armalite Barrels

The whole thing with the 1/2x28 threads on a heavy barrel has always been something that bothered me. I've heard the notion of mitigating this with a muzzle device. What also worries me is overtightening the muzzle device and I dont think I've ever found a definitive torque spec on muzzle...

    Screaming Deals on Armalite Barrels

Another update on the 11.5 Armalite. I went to a 100 yard range today with more GGG M193 and some AAC 77gr OTM and a chronograph. Unfortunately, I didnt think about putting a bigger scope on it, so all shooting was done with the TA11 I had on top of it. I thought the chrono numbers looked...

    Screaming Deals on Armalite Barrels

Oh, yeah, I get you. When I said over gassed, I meant that a pin that mic'd out at .076 was loose in the gas port. Just a tad over .070, which is what I believe Crane spec is for an 11.5 carbine gas. I guess I could have just thrown and H3 or H4 (A5 system) buffer in it, but I didnt want all...

    Screaming Deals on Armalite Barrels

I hear ya. What you said is one of the reasons why I bear the expense of running Criterion barrels. Mainly the Hybrid profile. They retain their composure when they heat up. And in the case $80>$300. I get what you're saying, but just because it's running, it doesn't mean it's running right...

    Pin and weld suppressor?

Well, like I said, it's just a theory. I understand what you're saying, but I don't think that more dwell time necessarily means more recoil. I mean, if you increase dwell time without adjusting gas volume/flow, then you will get more recoil, stuck cases, torn rims, etc., but my theory is that...

    Pin and weld suppressor?

Ok, I don't want to start a war on this subject, but using a heavier spring is not going to keep the gun from beating itself to death, although it will give the illusion of solving an over gassed situation by slowing bolt velocity. The best way to slow bolt velocity or, more accurately, keep the...

    Pin and weld suppressor?

Nah, I meant a high pressure can. I hear what you're saying about the gas in the face, but if I'm gonna go short with a 10.5 and its gonna be a dedicated host for a suppressor, I think I'd like to go with a high back pressure can. A high pressure can mimicks, to an extent, barrel length and...

    Screaming Deals on Armalite Barrels

Just wanted to post an update on the 11.5 Armalite Hbar. In stock form, it was grossly overgassed. I used a Yankee Hill suppressor gas block and drilled the gas hole out to .069 and it ran well with an A5H2 buffer with a few types of M193. I think I'm gonna try another gas block and drill this...

Rifle Scopes Lightweight short range hunting optic?

When I couldn't decide between the PLCx and NX8, I got both. After running both and getting a general feel for both, I stuck with the NX8. The PLXc has that bezzle less effect and a wider field of view. In the case of there PLXc, it seemed to me that PA chose to go with a small size and crammed...

    Screaming Deals on Armalite Barrels

I got my 11.5 HBAR in today. The barrel was dry. Really dry. No packing grease, storage lube or anything. Still, it looked like a brand new barrel. I threw an upper together with it. The only thing I've seen thus far that may be a problem is the gas port. Mine pinned out at .078. I just used a...
