Wants to make friends, drink beer, shoot guns and talk politics. Springfield. Dudes ISP assigned to some atf/fbi TF. Do not, I repeat do not let him bring his shotgun over to your home workshop unless he commits 3 NFA violations in front of you or shows you his wiener.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Ruger Bisley conversions?

They make a 5.5 blue in 44mag and a sort of special edition/distributor exclusive convertible 357/9mm but neither in the Bisley config.

5.5” in blue. How “interchangeable” are the barrels?

Sidearms & Scatterguns Ruger Bisley conversions?

Thinking about buying a new Ruger Super bh in 44. I want the Bisley grip to help with full power loads but mostly it looks cool. I can’t seem to find the barrel length/finish I want with a factory Bisley grip. Those that have done the conversion, where did you get the grip frame? How difficult...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns Handguns...show 'em

First wheel gun. Dad bought it for me when I was in HS(03 ish). He’s a deadbeat but a Colt fan, and somehow scraped up about $400 for it. Same situation as the 29. No original grips. Is there a good source for factory wood grips or reproductions? I also think the MkIII would look nice with...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns Handguns...show 'em

Old S&W 29 8 3/8” before they neutered the hammer and went to stainless. My uncle who taught me how to hunt/shoot bought it used in the 70’s from Ray O’herrons in Danville IL. He killed all kinds of stuff with it over the years. Not sure where the grips came from. Have the presentation box...

    I can’t say I’m a libertarian anymore

Exactly, the .gov has no rights. It does have an incredible amount of “power” the gov should also have no power to do anything, especially kill people, especially its own people. The federal gov has done literally everything our constitution was designed to keep them from doing.

    I can’t say I’m a libertarian anymore

Also the OP flying the stars n bars and calling yourself a libertarian is the same as putting a Gasden flag next to your thin blue line sticker. Lincoln was a tyrant but thinking it’s ok to own people is just as retarded as the .gov making it a crime to own inanimate objects.

    I can’t say I’m a libertarian anymore

Libertarianism is basically not having to give a shit who gets elected to an Office because they don’t have enough power to negatively influence your life. Libertarianism is the belief that no government has any right to hurt you or take what’s yours. Reagan criminalized pieces of metal and...

Gunsmithing Updated 5/23/24 Wood upgrade for Lever guns?

Just minwax tung oil 2:1 with mineral spirits. I started out trying to rub sawdust and oil to fill the pores. I cheated and used a chunk of ebony sanded it and used that to give the pores more color. I also used a little aqua coat clear grain filler (over the oil probably a mistake) to fill the...

Gunsmithing Updated 5/23/24 Wood upgrade for Lever guns?

So I’m finally to a point where I’m going to say “done” Still need to drill the hole in the forearm barrel band. Need to take it all apart and scrub the wax, dust etc out of the cracks. This was a fun and it was super satisfying going from live tree to finished stock. I need a lot more...

Gunsmithing Updated 5/23/24 Wood upgrade for Lever guns?

It soaked up so much oil the first few coats. Minwax tung oil 2:1 ratio with mineral spirits. No wax or anything else. It’s super hard to see the scratches when wet. Kinda like it drys different down in the scratches and turns white.

    Gunsmithing Aluminum to steel bonding?

No scope, just a sight base for irons. I think I’ll just drill and tap with epoxy. It’s just a fun project, nothing serious. Also there is no such thing as a “competent local gunsmith” kinda why I’m learning to bubba my own stuff. I’ve thought about it a lot and have sorta developed a theory...

Gunsmithing Updated 5/23/24 Wood upgrade for Lever guns?

Getting a lot of “streaking” in the finish when it dries. This was after using 320g sandpaper on a block and sanding in finish. I decided to just use pre made saw dust and sprinkle it in the oil then rub it all in with a 3m fine(probably 400 ish grit) finish pad. That really cut down on the...

Gunsmithing Updated 5/23/24 Wood upgrade for Lever guns?

I bought the sight and a plug for the dovetail. The dovetail plug doesn’t fit well and just falls out. The rear safety peep sight is ok. I wish I could find the pic rail/peep that came on the Rossi “triple black” to cover the holes/dovetail.

Gunsmithing Updated 5/23/24 Wood upgrade for Lever guns?

Yeah, this is a learning experience for me, really never done any gun wood before. I got all the big scratches out, started sanding. Following the lines of the figure seems to work ok. I went 120g then 180, raised the grain with a damp cloth between grits. 220 is up next. Sandpaper glued to a...

Gunsmithing Updated 5/23/24 Wood upgrade for Lever guns?

You can sorta see the “hand stitched” teeth on the dragon rasp. It certainly cuts better than any other rasp I’ve ever used. Need to turn a handle for it.
