    Lightest quality one piece mount

I would not use an Aero Ultralight, especially for a large scope. There are reviews and forum posts out there where the mount experienced zero shift after taking a bump while holding an LPVO. Unless something's changed, the torque spec for the base screws is only 15 inch pounds. Most quality...

Sidearms & Scatterguns What's your daily CC gun?

I keep coming back to the G19. I have a G43 that I rarely carry. It’s super comfortable but oddly doesn’t conceal much better AIWB vs my 19. I shoot the 19 so much better. Plus with 16 rounds on tap I don’t feel obligated to carry a reload. With a 43 I feel a reload is mandatory.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Is it worth getting a RDS for a handgun if I have an astigmatism?

A coworker of mine has bad astigmatism. Can’t totally correct for it. Even an EO Tech reticle blooms for him. He started playing with a Leupold DP Pro. He said despite the blooming of the red dot, it made it much easier to now down a plate rack compared to irons. He estimated shaving up to 1...

    Advanced Marksmanship Correcting for mirage

@j-huskey When I saw the effect I was shooting north. Magnification was at most 18x (Bushnell LRHS) but I believe I also saw the effects on lower magnification during the initial afternoon shooting session. With the wind and setting sun, my shots were pushed in the direction of the wind. I...

    The Fix from Q

Nice work. As a fellow MacGyver shooter, I applaud you. Also, you may have given the parent company a new product idea. They can call that the Q-ball.

Aero Precison 6.5 Creedmoor M5 build.

A .308 brake works with a 6.5 gun, so long as the threads are the same.

What does your average 100 yard group look like?

Thanks Sheldon for posting the match results with the group sizes. It’s interesting the group sizes do not really correlate with the match standings. One shooter in the top 10 shot about a 1.7 MOA group! At the same time a number of shooters shot impressive groups but didn’t fare as well in the...

What receiver sets for precision build?

@Strykervet did you ever get a chance to shoot that Grendel off a barricade before and after the receiver swap? If so, when you went with the MUR upper, did you at least notice a reduction in POA/POI offset between prone and barricade shooting?

    KAC LPR Mod 2

Hey @bigjake83 , Nice shooting on that 5 x 6. Did you make any scope adjustments between those groups? I sometimes get POI shift between groups without touching the scope and I was trying to see if others experienced the same. If no adjustments were made, any idea on what caused the shifts?

    Accuracy and Upper Receivers.

What length/profile barrel ? Which handguard? I have a 5.56 16” light weight Lothar Walther barrel with a BCM KMR handguard that doesn’t exhibit such POI shift between bipod and barricade bags. Upper receiver is a mil-spec receiver from DSG Arms. My .224 Valkyrie 20” heavy profile barrel...

    224 Valkyrie Craddock precision

I've had a 20" Bartlein from Craddock since January. Shooting primarily factory Hornady 88 ELDs. The below performance was with a sub optimal stock and grip setup. I hope the better setup I got will lead to more consistency. 5 shot groups are between .5 - .8 inch at 100. Groups end up on the...

    Advanced Marksmanship Correcting for mirage

Sometimes even when shooting on your home range weird stuff will come up as well. Back in late April we had a sudden heat wave after much rain. The first 100 yards of my range was grass and from 100-200 yards it was dirt/gravel. Around 11am I started to see a little mirage, but didn’t see...

Rifle Scopes Need a lower dollar ar optic will hold zero

Vortex Razor LH 1.5-8 (2nd focal plane) It’s technically been discontinued, but can be had for less than $500 if you find one in stock somewhere. I’ve had one for over a year mounted on a 16” 5.56 AR in a Warne xskel Mount. It’s held zero. Reticle is simple with useful hold points.

    Rifle Scopes Ar mount

Vortex precision cantilever mount is good to go. I believe those mounts are OEM’d by Seekins. Comes in 0 and 20 MOA. I’ve banged my Bushnell LRHS scope around a bit and that mount has held zero. Most likely you will need a cheek riser to get a proper weld on that mount (it’s 1.57” high). For...

    questions/advice on improving accuracy

I teach pistol marksmanship a lot at work. In that context a surprise break can work in the context of one shot with no time limit, but I’ve found the “surprise break” to be limiting to the shooters growth. I’ve come to phrase the mindset as “allowing” the shot to happen while you focus on...

    Is my rail causing shift

To the OP, have you ever done any side by side groups at 100 from prone bipod and GC bag to see if there is any offset to account for? When prepping for my first PRS match recently (with a 224V semi) offsets from different positions were something I paid attention to. What I found was a...

    308/learning/training/barrels etc

If cost savings is a priority, I would stick to your stock .308 barrel as a trainer/close range practice barrel, especially if you already have .308 ammo on hand. Shoot the 6.5 at distance and at matches. If money is not a real issue, nothing wrong with sticking with 6.5cm and having an...
